BCCO Premiere: Vel - You Taste Like Zaatar [CJACT003]

he Berlin-based producer duo Kalte Liebe keeps drawing their inspiration from Post-Punk, Grunge, Dark Wave, EBM, and Techno.
Coming with years-long experiences in different musical projects ranging from beat-making over metal bands, and more they started back in 2019 using a drum machine, a bass synth, and a wasted microphone, only.

Authentically recorded in a 12 square meter room Kalte Liebe started out as an experiment combining diverse influences by the likes of DAF, Falco, Thomas P. Heckmann and more into their distinctively analog, raw, and bassline-driven style.

While their productions are mostly consisting of an elaborated mixture of EBM and old-school Dark Wave paired with technoid characteristics and captivating, roughly distorted vocals in German and English the duo equally stands for tool-ish and highly energetic Techno – modern, pounding, and dirty.

With recent releases on labels like 01010100 Records, Vitus Curse and BFT, even more strongly performing self-releases like „Ego EP“ and their recent work „Dopamin“ they are slowly establishing their name in the scene and quickly growing their audience. With loads of unreleased work and their Vocal Live Performance Kalte Liebe is soon to be heard all over.

Following an impressive start to life in 2023, Marcel Fengler’s masterfully curated HARDPROOF series stomps forward into the new year with another hard-hittng edition. Coming in hot with an expectedamount of minimal techno potency, the fourth instalment of IMF’s HARDPROOF VA series welcomes Sons Of Hidden, Rey Brennan, JANEIN, Mathys Lenne and Jay York with five creatively crafted original tracks.

The VA gets underway with Sons Of Hidden and ‘Forgotten Garden’, diving straight into a pulsating flurry of fat, rounded kicks and hissing hat grooves alongside its relentlessly pumping low-end drive whilst glitchy vox shots, sensual vocal accents and sinister samples give it an eerily tribal/primal feel before Ray Brennan’s ‘Defender’ brings more savage low-frequency power from the outset. Riding a reeling vocal sample from the off, its progressive peaks and troughs, filled with corrosive melodic components, keep things on full intensity for the duration.

JANEIN comes next with ‘Perseids’ taking things on a hypnotic trip in this tribal-tinged kaleidoscope of dystopian synths and mind-bending modulation before Mathys Lenne’s ‘Lisa’ delivers more stripped-back ominous vibes alongside harshened industrial grooves and a rolling bassline. The release ends with Jay York and ‘Halsey’, which features a distinct alien feel from the outset and offers another solid exhibition of narcotic musicality set to the score of stadium-sized beats and a mix packed with fatiened frequencies from start to finish.

SHDW’s label, Mutual Rytm hits a notable milestone at the start of 2024 as it turns two years old and hits its 20th release. To mark the occasion, the carefully curated compilation ‘Federation Of Rytm III’ arrives on February 2nd with a 30-track 5 x 12" boxset vinyl release and a further 6 digital bonus tracks. 

Mutual Rytm is synonymous with serious, no-frills techno. It is a go-to for the world's most influential DJs and a home to some of the scene's most innovative producers. Over the last two years, it has explored several shades of sound, always with high-quality production and forward-thinking styles. A fine balance has always been struck between new and emerging talents and established names with plenty more to say, and that is the case on this collection which features the legendary likes of Blawan, Gary Beck, Colin Benders, The Advent and Dax J next to ANNĒ, Alarico, JakoJako, Chlär, LDS and many more.

Reclaim Your City unveils second compilation, ‘Heimat II’, featuring Arkan, Decka, Yant & Hitam.

April 2023 saw Dutch techno powerhouse Reclaim Your City debut its ‘Heimat’ compilation featuring Marcal, Nicolas Volger, Hurdslenk and Ruben Ganev. Now, the label returns with the second instalment to a new series of compilations with ‘Heimat II’, welcoming Arkan, Decka, Yant, and Hitam for the first time.
“Zeitgeisty by nature, the approach chosen for these VAs is to document state-of-the-art productions from lesser-known and emerging figures whose skills and talent we firmly believe in. An extension of our creed that techno is there to push boundaries and not reiterate the same bland assertions over and over, ad nauseam, “Heimat” shall form a shelter for top-of-the-range material and that exclusively, regardless of the producer’s fame, level of fashionability and/or market-friendliness.” - Reclaim Your City

Hypnotic techno mastermind Arkan is up first with the haze-like ‘Submarine’, in which cavernous sonar pings echo through vast aquatic depths, the track’s steady rhythm propelling forward. ‘Circumvent’ by SPE:C’s Decka is next, this time with a slower groove juxtaposed with fast-paced, liquid-like acid bubbling through its tough drum work.

On the B-side, the deservedly hyped Yant presents ‘Moving’. Its machine-funk of the highest order with elements rooted in dub, sequences dancing playfully on top of an intricate groove before Eerste Communie resident Hitam takes the reins with ‘Venusian Wind’. Glitching drums carve their way through monstrous droning low-end, its rolling soundscape creating a perfect, enthralling finish to another quality compilation from the RYC crew.

Involve Records proudly announces the upcoming release, Talkative Tools - a cutting-edge EP by the dynamic duo Blame The Mono. The EP kicks off with "Pane Smasher," combining dark techno beats with futuristic grooves and soundscapes. The track's unique character is further enhanced by distorted reggae vocal shots, leading to a break dominated by an amen break-based drum and bass rhythm. Keeping the pace up, "Dump The Dealer," an elaborate, detail-rich track that showcases Blame The Mono's mastery in sound design, follows. After releasing five sold out various artists EP’s featuring 25 artists, positivesource is excited to present a new chapter for the label with a diverse and anthemic EP from Berlin based producer Regent.

No stranger to the label, Regent contributed to src005 last year with his smooth techno roller ‘Off Agenda’ alongside music from Neri J, Alpha Tracks, Vil & Cravo. His tracks have featured heavily in DJ sets by label founders Blue Hour and Philippa Pacho over the years, naturally the idea to present the first artist EP on positivesource with Regent comes as no surprise. The record starts on a hypnotic tip with ‘Occult’, grooving along with an infectious bass-line swung beats and blissed out atmospherics before stepping up the energy levels on ‘Khmera’, a relentless chord driven percussive anthem with nostalgic vocals rising to new heights. On the flip the title track ‘Aphid Riot’ is bold and vibrant leaning heavily into UK flavours using sliced up vocals, breakbeats and a classic ‘Reece’ bass-line. Completing the record is a ‘broken’ version of ‘Aphid Riot’ highlighting an ethereal tonal melody with a deeper and more introspective take on the original. It’s a new sound exploration from the producer, demonstrating his versatility and perhaps a rare moment in his discography.

BCCO Premiere: Funk Tribu X ANDATA - New Wave

Podcast 365 is a wonderful trip of Techno flirting with House. The tease of genres transitions in the opening track had us smiling from the start. We are excited to introduce you to Italian artist, Sole Dosi.

Raised by techno collectives, Sole Dosi is a multidisciplinary artist characterized by a selection of techno music which includes references from Groovy Deep Techno, Hardgroove, harmonic Ambient, Electro Detroit and Trance.

Her mixes and productions reflect her passion for different genres and complex stories within tracks, allowing for very clear highs and lows. In the same set there can be very hardgroove passages, which provide raw rhythms moments and on the other hand tracks that establish a connection with the subconscious and put the listener in a kind of trance.

Always in search of unknown sounds and true contact with the crowd, she rapidly secured residencies at Tempio del Futuro Perduto, Rocket Club Milano and co-founded Dropzi Records, her label and event series.

A vinyl collector from a very young age, there is no better way to define her than a tireless freak selector who wants to bring people to her musical fantasy.
