Ande Estrella comes from a multicultural background--she musically and lyrically expels her perspective as a Filipina-American woman who experiences white privilege. She wrote "Purple Flowers" observing racial injustice that exists, specifically in the United States, melodically grasping the weight of what is in and out of reach as a small but significant individual.

This somber, haunting anthem illustrates Purple Flowers that fall off jacaranda trees, representing the illusion of modern day America which appears beautiful and free, at the expense of unnecessary wealth and exploitation of its people. It observes whitewashing alike to a country doing its laundry--"shrinking history in driers, teaching whiter in school"

This song sits with so much nostalgia from my childhood, fleshing out the ways I expressed love as a child and the relationships and memories I lived with as a result.

She illustrates the idea that women are most often against one another due to engrained, invisible, internalized sexism. She hopes to give all genders, women especially, a voice to find pride in uncomfortable words in order to heal.
