Optiv & BTK - Shredder [ Virus Recordings ]

This is a concept mix. Drum and Bass music is characterised by an up tempo rythym (Usually between 165 and 185 beats per minute. It places heavy emphasis on the drum beat and bass lines. I wanted to throw down a "Dark" mix for the most part but I like all sub genres of DnB, and I like how they sound together in the same mix. I think mixes that have all of the same types of sounds in them can get sort of lame, so I like to spice it up a little and catch people off guard. This mix is predominantly Neurofunk and Tech Step, but there are other tunes in there. Some might call one of the tunes a "Liquid" track, or others might call another track in here "Jump Up". In the end it is ALL Drum and Bass, and I hooked this set up for the shear love of the music. This describes my style so to speak. I hope you enjoy my sense of experimentation and I hope that this mix does not offend anyone. Afterall, it was only intended to broaden ones listening horizons. It began as a whisper, spoken in low tones in multiple languages in the uneasy night. Talk of a place where the greatest of mecha roam, gathering amongst the desolate ruins of a war prepared for and never fought. The first explorers returned with stories of low frequency weapons, harvested from the ruined depths of a subterranean complex. With these re-engineered into towering relays capable of pure sonic carnage, the lands began filling rapidly with pilgrims from distant places, offering themselves as captives to their own higher mental states. What was once a mere whisper has now become legend, with this meeting of the mightiest clans bringing forth the greatest frequency warriors to stake out their claims. 

EATBRAIN casts a long shadow across the fray, setting seasoned label veterans L 33 and MINDSCAPE into the hordes of adrenaline-fuelled ravers alongside recent label additions MACHINECODE and AGRESSOR BUNX - all of whom have LPs coming on the label as well as appearing at the festival. A tight manifesto is stretched across the 4 rowdy and high-energy tracks that make up the EATBRAIN GOES TO LET IT ROLL, with the irresistible audio manipulative skills of Eatbrain crafted to exquisitely tear up the dance. A reflection in sound of the perfect marriage between one of the best contemporary neurofunk labels and one of the most impressive live spaces that exists for drum and bass.

In June Thijs was over at Amon Tobin’s place in LA for a studio session. This is one of the tracks that came out of that session, it was pretty much completely done in 3 days. It was made in a dark place, infused with love for 808 electro, breakbeats, old crusty synthesisers and samplers, alternate tuning scales, and Mezcal & Tonic on the rocks.
