As we continue down the Beat & Path we find ourselves in a open field of musical cotton notes ready for the picking. Cotton Picker is the result a studio collaboration between Melbourne based DJ and producer Uone and veteran Sydney producer Nick West.

During 2016 Uone made the trip up to Sydney to work out of Nicks studio ranch Smith & Western. 

On one of those trips the cotton picker track emerged. With this project the focus was to deliver a raw analogue record with as many live recorded elements as possible. Firing up the synths the boys created a phat moog voyager bass line which underpins the swirling melodic drama. The track Is also layered with lashings of low slung morricone guitar hooks and a vocal that transports you to the cotton fields of the missisippi.

Strap in as we take you on a journey way back to a distant memory embedded in your tribal self.

On remix duties , long time friend of Uone, Oliver Koletzki delivers an unexpected disco twist whilst paying homage to the roots of the original.

The whole melodic-technoid thing might be well established already. However, believe it or not: Seth Schwarz and Westerby take it to a yet another level. Their track Aphelion has truly symphonic dimensions and opens a hidden bonus stage in the heads of the dancefloor. Here you can easily lose yourself in a morphing maze of kaleidoscopic patterns that is the multi-layered flow of the melody. Excellent fuel for collective high-altitude flights. NordFold & Budakid provide a remix for all those who prefer it a bit more minimalist, whereas Mollono.Bass lives up to his signature style and pushes Aphelion a notch further towards boost and pressure.

Das melodisch-technoide Ding mag sich bereits bestens bewährt haben. Aber, so unglaublich es auch klingt: Seth Schwarz und Westerby heben es hier nochmal auf ein ganz neues Niveau. Mit Aphelion stoßen die beiden in symphonisch-technoide Dimensionen vor und öffnen dabei in den Köpfen der Tanzfläche ein verstecktes Bonus-Level. Darin kann man sich in den fließenden Kaleidoskop-Mustern der vielschichtigen Melodie ganz wunderbar verlieren und austoben. Perfekte Voraussetzungen für einen kollektiven Höhenflug also. NordFold & Budakid kredenzen dazu einen Remix für jene Zeitgenossen, die es gerne einen Tick minimalistischer mögen und Mollono.Bass schiebt Aphelion mit routinierter Geste eine Idee weiter in Richtung Rumms.

"Roll With The Punches" is the second single taken from @douglasgreed's forthcoming album "Angst". It shows his talent for tracks that dress up as songs. The vocals and lyrics by his friend @joy-wellboy paint a sweet - sour picture that is able to give you much needed sun in the morning. It as a warm blanket that emerges out of thin air and is here to stay. The track thrives to the moment when all the sorrow and fears fall down the edges while you stay there and enjoy the sight of waves.

trndmsk: How long did it take you to produce the album?

Douglas Greed: I think the oldest track is more than four years old. I didn't wake up one morning and told myself „lets make another album“. It was rather a slow process and at some point i had a couple of tracks that fit together. And then came the idea to have an album that is about „Angst“.

How did you choose the title of the LP? Is there a special meaning behind it?

These past couple of years felt like everything was a bit out of control - a bit out of tune. Starting with the UK voting for Brexit, then the US electing the worst human being into office and even Germany french kissing with fascism. That seriously kept me up at night! I was afraid - i am afraid. This helplessness was new to me - i never thought that things could turn this bleak. Who in his right mind would vote for a dude who says „you can grab them by the pussy“ or how can it be that German people vote for a fascist teacher … ?

And then there is climate change … That seriously scared the shit out of me.
So i decided to see how i can put this into music. But not just political rooted fear but also personal fear that comes with being an artist.

What inspired you to produce the tracks and the LP?

There are songs with guest musicians that gave the „Angst“ theme their own spin and there are a couple of tracks without vocals. With those instrumental tracks i tried to catch the bitter-sweetness of fear, as it is also the driving force in my life.

Where and how did you produce the tracks?

I produced most of the tracks in my studio in Berlin. For some of the recordings i drove to Switzerland to record and talk with ODD BEHOLDER.

How did the collaborations come about?

I talked with ODD BEHOLDER and Joy Wellboy about my ideas of "Angst" and asked them to put their own approach into vocals, Lyrics and riffs. Which was quite interesting for me as everyone of us has a different relationship with fear and the way it impacts their life.
