Hot from his amazing remix of Chris Turner 'FlyLOVE', out now on a limited 10", here is a special mix from Detroit house and hip hop don DJ Dez aka Andrés, recorded live at the FallingUp club session !
Partly brought up in California, Andrés cut his teeth DJ-ing on the Cali underage party scene, before moving back to the 313 with his family. Already a certified crate digger and vinyl archivist, he started working at the legendary Buy-Rite Records store, the very same place that Kenny Dixon Jr. received his paycheck from. After spending some time at Amp Fiddler’s home studio, Dez met J Dilla, who recruited him to DJ for his hip hop crew, Slum Village. 
Parallel to revolutionising the US rap landscape with the new-found electrified smoothness of S Villa, Andrés started to explore his hometown’s house legacy from the late 90s onwards. He hooked up with his former recordstore buddy to release a string of freewheeling house-not-house 12"s on KDJ, leading up to a highly prolific relationship with Mahogani Music. After three acclaimed full-length albums for Mahogani, which really put him on the map as one of the most versatile figures on the Detroit dance music circuit, he launched his own imprint La Vida with the future classic New For U 12”.

Space Selected Works#Evenings On The Beach

For the second time Carhartt WIP Radio features a show from the Land of the Rising Sun. This time we spotlight Jazzy Sport, an umbrella for a label, two record shops based in Morioka and Tokyo, a distribution company and a production studio in Tokyo. Their musical foundations are rooted in Jazz, Hip Hop, Downtempo, Library music, and House. Each genre can be found in this mix prepared by the Tokyo based DJ and producer grooveman Spot. Besides a few of his own tracks, you will experience music by Japanese artists like DJ Mitsu the Beats, Cro-Magnon, and Physical Sound Sport, who all produce music of varied styles, tempos and grooves.

Our next podcast comes from London based Dan Shake, who has become the very first producer without a Detroit heritage or residency to land a release on Moodymann's prestigious record label, Mahogani Music. Having just watched Kenny Dixon Jr. perform as part of the 3 Chairs at Dimensions Festival, Dan handed over a demo CD with a collection of unreleased tracks. Moodymann was hooked from the offset, taking the first plunge on welcoming an outsider into his tight-knit crew of Detroit strong artists.

Smooth Sunday Session # 8 - Selected & mixed by Tek A Dee (March 2014)

I discovered Frankie Knuckles through his music, one that was, gentle, lush with a subdued, understated power that rocked many a dancefloor.
I had the privilege to hear him once in the heyday of his legendary residency at Sound Factory Bar in New York. I was submerged, sonically and emotionally by the beauty of the music I heard that night. I remember very clearly saying to myself that this would be impossible to ever equal.
That was 20 years ago, and I never got to hear this magic combination again.

I got to meet Frankie a few times, and he was always like his music, gentle, humble,   yet naturally imposing

I've put together here some of my favorite music from him. So that his legacy can keep on inspiring other people.

Rest in peace, Frankie, may your music keep on moving people eternally
