For this installment of my chill series I found inspiration the moment I heard a vocodered voice singing Hotel California in the Luxxury edit. A week later I heard AfroQBen's amazing remix of Sweet Emotion by Aerosmith and I was off to the races. Being a New Wave kid as a teen I didn't get into many of these songs until my adult years and yet somehow I listen to this mix and it makes me feel like a teenager again.

My Definition of Chill Vol. 6 Jukebox Hero

Nustalgica is a term I've coined that refers to electronic remixes and covers of old songs you'll recognize.  Because it appeals to both the familiar and new parts of your brain, it's like easy listening for the electronic generation.  I love these sounds and am a collector of these gems. This mix was recorded live at The Gathering IX in 2022. 

I wanted it to be a special reward for followers here on SoundCloud, so I was holding on to it, but it's such an opus of my music, and probably the longest set I'll ever record, that it just deserves to be out there in the world already!  This 8-hour mix will hopefully take you on a musical journey, through laughs, cuddles, some dancing, and fond moments from songs re-discovered through my signature nustalgic collection -- nostalgic songs remixed to be new to your ear yet familiar enough to evoke fond memories and bring a smile to your face.

Base FM Breakfast host Ian ‘Beatmaster’ Wright has been a hip hop, funk and breaks DJ for over 20 years. Originally from the south of England, Beatmaster relocated to Auckland, New Zealand in 2012. Back in the UK he was part of the ‘Off The Hook’ Sound System, ‘Good Bye Cruel World’ and ‘BUSH’ club nights where he supported such acts as Souls Of Mischief, Ugly Duckling, People Under The Stairs, Jeru Da Damaja, Rahzel, Andy Smith, DJ skully, Mr Thing, DJ Noize, First Rate, and 3x DMC World Team Champs C2C to name but a few. Beatmaster continues to rock parties in and around New Zealand with a blend of funky Hip Hop, soul, breaks & mashups.
