Stingrays first encounter with electronic music in 1986 in Singapore and started his DJ career in 1989 and currently based in Taiwan.

Stingrays is fascinated with technology, art, acquiring knowledge and the application of it, and the omnipresent forces of nature and emotion. He strives for the ultimate fusion of all of these.

As a producer and a former techno rebellion of sheep/zet/integrale uk, he has began his underground music movement producing techno music in all shades and colors, from hard to experimental to leftfield stuff and beyond. Apart from releasing on his own label Relocked/Submerged Nations Recs, that Stingrays came into his signature sound, he also releases on numerous other techno labels around the globe

Hello, dear souls 💜

After a little „end of the yaer“ break I am back with another podcast episode. Now in 2023, I'm adding a new platform to share artists' music stories, opinions and my own thoughts and from now on you find ON THE MISSION podcast also on Youtube.

In this episode I am introducing to you Javier Escribano aka Utōpia / @utopia_dj /, DJ, producer, underground techno label owner of Asymmetrical Records / @asymmetricalrecords /, my great supporter from beautiful Spanish city of Madrid.

Early in 1998, Utōpia found his way how to play music himself starting with two turntables and a mixer. After few years of getting in shape he moved forward to perform in the clubs and raves in his home town. He shared dj booth with great artists and eventually with the time he became a sound technician. After getting certificated the life took him on a different path, he moved to London and found his other hidden talents.

In between he always managed play some music and his wife knew this. She gave him for his birthday the latest needles and pushed him towards the turntables even more than before, while awakening in him the desire to play music more and more again.

Part of his musical influences have been dark and industrial, sounds like Nine Inch Nails, Front 242, Nitzer Ebb and DJs and producers like Surgeon, Jeff Mills which are also present in some of his sets. His first production came up in early 2000's for industrial/electronic music bands and he was already playing with some atmosphere techno music at that time. In 2021 - 2022 he was a resident Dj at London Radio & Bar AajaMusic where he runned his show called Raw_Techno.

UTŌPIA'S ANSWERS ABOUT THE FUTURE

1. What do you think about techno music future?

“ Well, I think it's a musical style that has no limits, Although many times we are not aware of it, we are constantly surrounded by techno music. It is present in advertisements, shops, movies, gyms, etc., and there is a neurological reason that justifies it. In addition, it is one of the most revolutionary musical movements in history. Specifically techno has always been a very futuristic music based on science fiction. Sometimes the term techno is used in non-specialized media in a more generic sense that encompasses all electronic dance music.

So to answer this question, I think it has a future in which it will transform, but it will never disappear. “

2. How do you imagine the future on Earth in general?

“ Unfortunately, I am somewhat apocalyptic and when I'm always looking around me, I think that the world, on the least expected day, will say enough. Human beings are generally very selfish and only look out for themselves, the system in which we live is moved by the money and that means that the most important decisions are made based on that. I know wonderful people and I think that they are more and more aware of helping to take care of the planet, but those who can really do something with their power, they do nothing, For this reason, some of these people can see an escape only in the space and now they hurry to go further, before the human race destroys itself by their own actions.”

Dutch DJ and producer, Reggy Van Oers is an artist who absolutely nails one side of the On the 5th Day sound. BIO:
Over the past few years, somewhat mysteriously, Volster has graduallybecome one of the most noted fresh figures of the Croatian electronic scene, leaving his signature through production, DJing, event organisation and, since recently, launching his own vinyl label, Out of Place.
The main subculture Marko was positively exposed to in the 90’s was techno, a style he has been practicing for almost two decades now. As he was performing within and outside the Croatian borders, Volster gradually started experimenting with his sound in the production process that led to signing his early releases with a few smaller foreign record labels. Frequent travelling around Europe and absorbing the music of foreign performers, such as Sandwell District, Mike Parker and Sleeparchive, significantly affected him and his relationship with the similar sound grew even stronger.
After launching Out of Place label, the only logical move was to start publishing his music, making his Nihilist EP label’s first release. What characterises Nihilist EP are harsh and cosmic tangles that vary from hypnotic techno to Detroit inspired electro, which guaranteed noted feedback from a few well-known artists. In addition, this release earned him the biggest recognition for the electronic music in Croatia, by winning the Klubska Scena award for Ambassador of the Year in the Vinyl of the Year category.
Parallel to the new musical chapter of his life, Volster launched TRAUM and Hipertenzija events in his hometown, bringing a new style of techno and club life, characteristic for the majority of Europe, to the local audience. Francois X, Amotik, DJ Deep, Antigone, Etapp Kyle, Paula Temple and Cassegrain are some of the few names that TRAUM hosted so far.
2018 saw a radical turn in his vision as establishing himself as an artist by launching his self-managed imprint, Secession. The first record entitled “The Process of Becoming” was released in December of 2018 featuring remixes from Swedish master of contemporary techno Anthony Linell and talented Berlin based duo Cassegrain. Second release is set for winter 2020.
To this day Volster has performed across the Europe ranging from clubs in Berlin and Budapest to festivals like Dimensions Festival and Modem Festival with his most notable appearance and debut performance in infamous club Berghain - Panorama Bar on September 2019.
