I built a fire yesterday
To try to burn away the gray
But there’s no color left at all
And as the mist turns into rain
A freeze upon me once again 
Cutting through me like a saw

And as the rain turns into sleet
There’s no sensation in my feet 
I stumble hard and start to crawl
But then I start to feel some heat
My frozen heart begins to beat
Soon I won’t feel the chill at all

Without a thought of the extravagance and waste
Sit at the table, take your napkin, say a grace
Before you tell me I can only have a taste… anyways

I pull the blanket to my head
But all the heat’s drained out of bed
I twist the sheets into a knot
I’ll pace the floor all night in stead
Until my slippers turn to lead
And I forget what I ain’t got

Maybe I’ll burn the damn house down
They’ll see the glow all over town
I’ll pull a chair up I suppose
The fire men will stand around
And watch it burn right to the ground
The water froze right in the hose

My frosty fingers fail to feel
I’ll take a bath in molten steel
Two thousand five hundred degrees
And by the cooling slag I kneel
Repent my sins and cut a deal
To send my darling back to me

A second ice age on the way
Because my baby’s gone away
The snow’s all ready shoulder deep
I’m fading fast so don’t delay
