This is a solo I played on bass trombone during a performance with Livio Almeida's Brazilian Dectet at Zinc Bar on July 2, 2016.

Fantasy for Trombone and Orchestra, Op. 42 by Paul Creston:
This piece was written for Robert Marstellar and premiered by the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 1947 and is cornerstone of the trombone solo repertoire. Creston, more famous for his Marimba Concerto, created a trombone concerto that drew from the contemporary idioms of the day. In this piece one can hear influences of: Stravinsky, Gershwin, Ravel and draws heavily from jazz. Long considered one of the hardest pieces in the repertoire, it serves as a virtuosic showpiece for the soloist demonstrating technique and lyrical solo ability.
