Burning the midnight soil, Wormbox is the amalgamation of two new age cats - Break Mode and Cole Baby - whose collaboration results in a euphoric trip that makes your feet glide against a smokey checkered floor. Their jams are uniquely sewn together by combining each of their distinct production styles, creating a truly singular sound. Pulling from all sides of their electronic and dance music predecessors, the outcome is just as delightful as it is unexpected, proving these worms are anything but grounded.

In this, their first offering, the two introduce you to their friend Kachina Sedona Max, a New Age Cat who enjoys drinking crystal water and meditating in the bathroom. This track is backed with the cosmic epic The Defender of Heaven. 

Rounding out the release, Thomass Jackson brings a spritely psychedelic remix of a New Age Cat ripe for any dancefloor. Then Coast2c strips The Defender of Heaven down to the studs and runs it through a spin cycle.

South Coast sunset soundtrack stalwarts, Higher Love Recordings, pair up with fellow Balearic Brightonian, Perry Granville, aka Hotel Pellirocco`s Dave Sibley, for a proper pukka 6-track piece of plastic. Two tunes, Sailing Ships and New Arp4, slipped out, digitally, a couple of years back, but now they’ve been dusted off, polished, and given a stellar set of remixes, before finally being pressed to vinyl.

The former is a chugging, chunk `o funk, dynamite for darker dance-floors. A boisterous mid-tempo bouncer that pits wild, wonky, unpredictably pitched chords against twisting tones, gated shouts, and sampled `80s American network news footage. Early reports on this “fad” called “house music”. For the rework, Sean Johnston and Duncan “Tici Taci” Gray join forces, as Hardway Bros Meet Monkton Uptown. The dynamic duo delivering an epic dose of post-punk dub, that (Jah) wobbles to a lithe, live, bass-line. Its journey electrified by bubbling, effervescent sound-effects, ricocheting rimshots, and thunder / lightning strikes. A mediative melodica melody topping everything off.

The latter is a glacial, kinda gothic, wall of sound, set to a sleek electro beat. Ethereal ghosts inhabiting its machines, and shaken by explosions of cymbals. Towards its close Mr. Sibley switches on some serious TB-303 snarling. Break Mode takes the acid and diaphanous voices and fixes them to a loop of The Winstons B-boy /drum & bass classic, Amen Brother. Further adding shoegaze-esque 6-string action to create an emotional monster. Leeds` Mr. BC - real name Bob Salmond - constructs something equally anthem-like, but significantly more sleazy, by introducing a huge, resounding, reverberating thump. The rock guitars, rolling piano, and edgy menace of this wee small hours strut, had me personally thinking of butch, leather-clad gear, such as The Skatt Brothers` Walk The Night. A stunning, sparse, stripped-back, spaced-out reimagining from Justin Robertson`s Deadstock 33s completes the package. Driven by beatnik bongos, and shot through with spinning, spiralling strings, haunted by John Barry-like harpsichord - think The Persuaders TV theme - Justin’s jam is suffused with a sort of cinematic end-credit drama. A super suitable setting for the song`s found / sampled line, “How many can say they walk away the hero.”

Tecwaa is the solo project from York-based musician & DJ Paul Fawcett. With broad influences from early noughties Yorkshire raves, Detroit Techno & horror movie scores, the producer’s sounds are hard to pin down and bracket to any one particular genre. 

Exploring the intersections of chugging psychedelic, deep house, slow-disco & dub techno his evocative tracks specialize in that hard to pigeonhole late night/early morning sound, upending club dancefloors and soundtracking afterparty sunrises. That breadth is reflected in the four originals he’s crafted for MeO Notion, from mid-tempo acid breaks on “Many Fallen Skies” and “Solaris” to hyperspeed almost-jungle via “Long Past the Echoes,” and the utterly halucinogenic digi skank of “Î Terra Dub.”

With two mind-melting LPs for Scando powerhouse Höga Nord Rekords, as well as singles for Les Yeux Orange, Futureboogie and now Throne of Blood to name a few, we’re so glad to kick off 2023 with Tecwaa’s latest and dare we say greatest release yet.

SIS is up next up on Mobilee with The Get Down feat. Benjamin Frnkln. After Kevin Yost´s recent debut release, SIS is the second new signing on the label since Anja’s departure. Both artists have demonstrated great versatility and continue to impress with state of the art instrumentation and poignant lyrics.

The title track kicks off with an energetic balearic beat, a chanting vocal comes in closely followed by a hard-hitting, and very welcome bassline. Sounds reminiscent of an 80’s sci-fi movie are littered throughout this extended track leading way to a breakdown midway that upholds suspense, making way to a superb agglomeration of pleasing audio.

Track two, The Module, begins with a steady introduction, complete with more space-age sounds, opens up to a spoken word verse about modern technology and “the power of music”. A drum roll makes way to an intensified kick, the vocals continue to inspire as the beat rolls out into yet another superb example of the artist’s ability to turn a cluster of distinct tones into a dancefloor filler.

Following the success of his previous release on Crosstown Rebels, Cocolino Records founder SIS has been busy in the studio most recently producing a mix for the ever popular It’s all about the Music radio show. Benjamin Frnkln, well known for his incredible vocal abilities, most recently featured on Butch’s Highbeams on Hot Creations back in 2013.

Hot Creations favourite and Paradise resident Patrick Topping is back onboard the seminal imprint with the hotly anticipated, two track release, Be Sharp Say Nowt.

Road tested on the world’s biggest stages and at the most notorious parties, title track Be Sharp Say Nowt encapsulates Patrick’s signature sound and has proven to be his biggest track of the year. “The gospel vocal from LaShun Pace is amazing!” says Patrick, “I'm so happy to have it finally come out on Hot Creations”.
