The iconic club by the Spree celebrates 20 years with a mammoth 20 track compilation of new and unreleased tracks exclusive to the compilation. From Sasha to Anja Schneider, Henrik Schwarz and Adana Twins, right through to the ascendent names such as JAMIIE, Kristin Velvet, JOPLYN and Biesmans, the compilation is an exhilarating snapshot of some of the artists who have shaped Watergate’s sound; both via the label and through laying down unforgettable sets at the club over a two-decade period. 
 
The highlight heavy compilation charts a course throughout all the deep, dark, euphoric, tech and even pop-laden corners of house music. Henrik Schwarz navigates a classic course via the vibey ‘You Need Attitude’, while JOPLYN brings soaring melodies and arresting vox with ‘Lima’. Biesmans is in characteristic sleek form with the sparkling nostalgic-soaked business of ‘Basic Bro’, before emerging stars Mia Mendi contribute a driving electro jam ‘Astromech’. 
 
The iconic Anja Schneider is an essential addition. The Berlin icon brings her A-Game with the big piano chords and gospel vocals of ‘Can’t You See Me No More’ before handing the baton to Extrawelt who comes strong with a delicious micro house serenade ‘Rover’. Sasha weaves a trademark masterful beast with ‘Wolf Cider, a dark and twisted weapon that’s packed with plenty of groove and low-end attitude. First premiered during her excellent Boiler Room session in 2019, Kristin Velvet’s ‘Wanted Competition’ is a propulsive gem that reinforces her position as one of the most exciting breakout producers of the last two years. 
 
Adana Twins are always on-point and they don’t disappoint with ‘Nacht’ a deviant, distorted house tool the belongs in every DJ’s back pocket. Matthias Meyer & Ryan Davis enjoy a superlative history on Watergate Records and share another ace ‘Genki’, a shimmering, drama-laden piece that morphs into a tougher psy-laden finish. New Watergate Agency signing DJEFF crafts an uplifting string-laden ace with ‘Cloud 7, showing off his impressive musicianship along the way, while Hyenah make an essential contribution with the funky key-driven houser ‘Going in Circles’. Club resident JAMIIE shares the wicked ‘Echoes’, which is pacey and hypnotizing in equal measures and brought to life by colourful arpeggios and a latticework of key patterns. The project rounds out on a stunning note with ‘Tone Trails’, a lilting slice of electronica by Watergate stalwart Marco Resmann & Lee Jones, which is inflected with organic guitar and dreamy melodies. 
 
The release will be presented as a triple gatefold vinyl using a special ink-spot color effect and will feature a collection of the compilation’s key tracks, while all tracks will be available digitally.

Hot on the heels of a 3-track inclusion on the third instalment of John Digweed’s Quattro series on Bedrock comes a barnstorming remix package commemorating Aubrey’s very first Bedrock release, the Dystopia EP Remixes. The 3-tracks - Tyrant (Four Candles remix), Nature (The Morning Factory remix), and Topaz (Synthetic remix) have been causing a stir from DC10 to E1 (where Aubrey is DJing at the infamous annual Bedrock Easter bank holiday party in April).
It isn’t uncommon for people to take a break from dance music and make a subsequent comeback, but not many people take a 15-year break in the Welsh wilderness then sign all 5 of their first completed productions to a prestigious imprint such as Bedrock. Up steps Aubrey Fry who did just that, following the purplest of production patches during the pandemic
First came inclusion on John Digweed’s gargantuan 2021 Bedrock mix compilation sequel, Quattro II, with the track Hard featuring alongside contributions from luminaries including Robbert Babicz, Josh Wink, Darren Emmerson, Bushwacka!, Miles Atmospheric, and Quivver.
This was shortly followed by his first solo release for the label in May 2021 with the 4-track Dystopia EP, featuring the tracks, Nature, Tyrant, Topaz and Dystopia. The EP successfully shows off the contrasting sides of Aubrey’s productions, with elements of breaks, techno, and electronica juxtaposed to great effect for audiophile listeners and dancefloors alike.
Then there was The Loop (also included on the recent vinyl only RPM01 release on Bedrock, which created so much industry heat (labelled a “masterpiece” by Dave Clarke), the phone at Bedrock HQ did not cease to ring as DJs scrambled to find out what it was having heard John close with it at show after show.
On top of all this there’s a been a delicious 2-track EP collaboration with fellow Bedrock artist Four Candles for Somersville Records and there is a raft of top-secret Aubrey Fry releases and collaborations in the pipeline for 2023.

Strangers In Paradise, is out now on Bedrock Records, is an album with a story like no other. 

September 2019: As Typhoon LingLing battered South Korea, the inhabitants of the rugged, volcanic island of Jeju frantically set up ‘typhoon parties’, collectively clubbing together to share resources and to shelter from the onslaught of the elements. This is how Al, Barry and Dibby met. The trio instantly gelled.

When the superstorm finally passed, they emerged and began to make music together; three musicians from widely varying backgrounds, yet with a shared love of vintage synths, blues guitar and psychedelic electronic music. Thus, Island Hill were born.

Strangers In Paradise is a musical snapshot of their incredible time together on Jeju and one of the freshest, most original albums for quite a while, born from a melting pot of musical environments and inspirations in the studio. Dark synths ripple and fuse with warm pacific guitars, vibrant vocals and harmonies nestled perfectly in the mix. Intelligent lyrics delivered through brooding, but bright and beautiful soundscapes. No wonder Island Hill are widely tipped as ones to watch this year.

Island Hill on Strangers In Paradise: We’re humbled to release our debut album on the iconic Bedrock Records, and we thank Scott and John for trusting and running with our sound. It all began with us experimenting in a small home studio over a few cheeky soju (Korean rice spirit). That relaxed vibe culminated in a warm and open-hearted album. Thank you so much to Of Norway, Jamie Stevens, and Dee Montero. Their collaborations brought so much depth and complexity to the album's theme.

It's always exciting when two artists collaborate on music together, especially when you've released music with them before. Having released music from both of these artists it was great to receive the 'Mindgrooves EP' from Randall Jones & Four Candles.
