This week’s In The Basement features a live recording of Paul Inflyte’s set from
last weekend’s Sasha & Digweed aftershow in Belfast. Having supported the
duo many times over the years — from Shine and the Ulster Hall to Custom
House Square, Paul returned to headline the afters in Room Two at the
Telegraph Building for Shine.

This is the final hour of his set: deep, rolling house and hypnotic techno
capturing the energy and atmosphere of an unforgettable night in the city.

Bank for a ninth incarnation of their popular series, label head-honcho, Juan Pablo Torrez, curates the inspiring “Clubsonica Sampler, Vol. 9”.

From across Europe, North and South America, a quintet of tracks marks a powerful statement within the underground house scene. Opening proceedings, Ajaw and Rama (AR) create a slice of dark energy with “Eclipse”. Originally from Patagonia with releases on Massive Harmony Records, Droid9 and South American Avenue, Ajawa joins forces with Formosa-born Rama (AR), whose support has come from such legendary figures as Hernan Cattaneo, Guy J and Nicolas Rada. Redolent in fizzing percussive dynamism, clever melodic flourishes light up the track while a bassline groove hits its mark in the second half to powerful effect.

Spending over a decade as a drummer and percussionist, Buenos Aires-born Chicato moved into the world of electronic music production with impressive effect. Finding his work allied to the likes of One Of A Kind, Anoka and Freegrant Music, the San Carlos de Bolivar resident appears here with the chunky rhythmic backdrop of “Soldier”. Hypnotic in its execution, subtle pads wash over the mid-range before a Latin-tinged lead refrain makes its presence felt at the mid-point and beyond. The result is an intelligent juxtaposition of chilled groove and dance-friendly melody.

Multi-talented Melodic Techno, Progressive and Organic House star, Jhonny LP, has found his audio engineering skills in demand on Sonnet Speciale, Forward Music and Future Avenue. Born and raised in Medellín, with qualifications in Civil and Seismic Engineering, Palau (OFC) saw his love for electronic music in the 2000s translate to production talent in the 2020s with work on Big Toys Production, Protagonist Dark and an upcoming release on SINCITY. Coming together on “Wake Up”, Jhonny LP & Palau (OFC) have created a mesmerising progressive number that powers forward with driving beat, growling bass swells and percussive intensity. Building towards the mid-point, a stunning arpeggio sequence enters the fray, filtered and pitched, before creating a siren-call into the second half alongside rhythm and bass groove.

From the Lone Star State, Medicii is a relative newcomer to the Progressive House scene with a debut on YOMO Records in late 2024. Further work for Superordinate Music and Polyptych has followed, as a penchant for “late-night” warehouse grooves and dark, progressive basslines” has led to “Thought Into Motion”. True to his word, with a deep, gently pulsating bass sequence, a strong beat and off-beat hats pave the way for a sonorous collection of melodic layers to play off each other in sensual fashion. Evolving easily over its 6-minute duration, twinkling arps and catchy motifs in the second half create an striking Clubsonica debut.

French producer Narik closes proceedings with the sparkling “I Need You”. A seasoned professional with almost a double century of production credits to his name after early work on MBMH Records in 2017, Narik has gone on to see his music released on industry stalwarts, Dreaming Awake, Freegrant Music and Bonzai Progressive. Creating a smooth flowing backdrop with deep bass groove and light percussive touch, “I Need You” gradually opens up with a cascading arpeggiated sequence and reversed chords. Waxing and waning with dancefloor ease, Narik’s skill is to create an immaculately arranged piece that engages listener interest with an array of melodic touches, breathy vocals and spine-tingling piano. The result is a real tour de force.

NotMeghan (colloquially known as Meghan) is a Denver-based DJ and dentist by day, known for her deep and progressive house sets that take listeners on an emotional, melodic journey. Inspired by John Digweed, she approaches every performance as both art and storytelling - the result of decades spent on the dance floor as field research. With deliberate transitions and heartfelt curation, NotMeghan blurs genre lines and bridges discipline with emotion, carving a distinct space in the world of underground electronic music.

From an early age it’s been about the rhythm section for Racket Club. Playing drums in bands that covered Rage Against the Machine and Deftones, Racket Club’s style has since morphed into what he calls Disco-Tech: a little Disco, a little Tech, and everything in between. He has an affinity for bouncy House music bass lines with female and hip hop vocals and you know he’s going to throw down in the club having done it for nearly 15 years, at venues like Sound Nightclub LA, Academy LA, Audio San Francisco, House of Blues, Lost Beach Club (Ecuador), Slate New York, and Zuma Boston. 

Racket Club has played support for and alongside heavy hitters HoneyLuv, Gene Farris, Westend, DJ Susan, OFFAIAH, Pickle, and Zen Freeman and he’s been on the bill for Groove Cruise, Wicked Paradise, Space Yacht, Hood Politics, Framework, and even Mammoth Mountain.

On the production side Racket Club’s released a flurry of edits that have gone viral on SoundCloud including his Beyoncé edit that’s approaching 50K streams and has aired on BBC Radio 1. He’s also had releases on Top Shelf Disco and Quincy Boy Records, with a release on Hood Politics out Spring 2023.

Former member of the record label Top Shelf Disco, a founder of the event series Pizza & Techno plus a co-founder of the music blog My Music Is Better Than Yours, Racket Club is no stranger to the electronic music world. Keep an eye on this LA-based stud as his single goal in life is to make you dance.
