One of Australias most talented, inspired and sought after artists, Jamie Stevens, makes a welcome and long overdue return to Bedrock with The Beneficiary EP. Having first been introduced back in 2008 via his exceptional remix of John Digweeds Warung Beach (BEDPPF10), Jamie also contributed the standout Indigo to Bedrock 14 (BED14CD), and collaborated with John Digweed & Nick Muir to create Prism for their 2013 Versus (BEDVS01CD) project. 

Now, hes back and in the words of Mr Digweed: Jamie Stevens is on fire right now. As an enticing opener, The Beneficiary is hard to beat. Its carefully structured layers of hypnotic percussive beauty are topped with subtle melodic swirls, as it glides effortlessly onwards in a masterclass of intricate excellence. 

In perfect contrast, A Bird In The Hand is a hissing, whirling dervish of pent-up, wickedly delicious excitement a twisting, dipping and soaring fireball of joyous energy, that grows and mutates and expands inexorably from start to finish. 

Essentially, what joins both of these unique compositions at the hip is an attention to detail that marks Jamie Stevens out as an exceptional producer at the top of his game. Two decades of stunning original productions, most recently for the likes of All Day I Dream, Replug, Balance Music and microCastle, alongside a mindboggling array of remix outings, gives an insight into the heart and soul of Jamie Stevens. Each masterpiece (and his unique DJ sets) journeys into the human psyche in a way that only a small number of composers and DJs within the electronic music realm can. Jamies unrelenting diligence, consistency, quality and refreshingly humble nature, are all key attributes that will continue to see him grow as a major contributor, and role model, to the house and techno community on a global scale far into the future.

In its original 4:4 form One Darker builds steadily with precise programming, inspired intricate layering and powerful groove development, all interlocking perfectly to unleash an utterly engrossing energetic flow that swoops and soars with masterfully controlled abandon. 

Then, in flawless artistic contrast, Quivver shifts into his recently revived (with his remix of Sashas Rooms after a 20-year hiatus) alternate Skanna guise, giving him the freedom to experiment with a spacious, immense, gravity-defying 130bpm drum & bass take on One Darker witness a true master at work. Rounding out the release and returning to the label for his third appearance is Felix Cage. The Paris-born, Moscow-raised and now Brussels-based artist first appeared on the Belgian imprint in June of 2019 with a contribution to the label’s ‘Treasure #1’ collection, while December of the same year yielded the ‘Mon Automne’ EP. Also finding a home on Katermukke, Mobilee Records and Parquet Recordings, Felix now lands back on Nugget Music with an inspired take on ‘Eleuthera’ by Bigasti & Beije. Dulcet beats and waves of rippling bass anchor the piece, while spaced out sonics and a shifting musical theme build expertly into a symphonic sunrise; spiritually fulfilling and perfectly dialled for a broad range of dance floors. Groovy and emotive in equal measure it caps off a stunning first edition of Nugget Music’s ‘Alteration’ series that’s not to be missed.

After Buch and Jarner conjured away all the negative energies in the city jungle another distinctive character took over the minds of the friends. It was Andres Rauschecker, who built a solid foundation for a fruitful adventure. His calm, yet rolling rhythms generated a prosperous and warm sound culminating into a hypnotic atmosphere that slowly lured the friends out of the city. The pulsating groove felt like a gentle ride, daring them to let loose and get lost in the sound.

CHOOK It Was A Musical Thing

LNOE is closing off the year with another collaboration from Sasha, this time alongside rising star Franky Wah. This release gives a taste of the musical ties between the two and paints a unique picture across the 4-track EP. Franky Wah has been making a name for himself releasing on labels such as Afterlife and Ministry Of Sound amongst others.

‘Haunted’ the title track shows instantly that the combination of these two artists is certainly not a gimmick and sets the tone for the release. Franky commenting on their collaboration says: "Sasha has played a huge part in putting me on the map by supporting my music, so it’s an honour to be able to collaborate on this project with an artist that I’ve always looked up to. This EP is a perfect amalgamation of both of our sounds and I’m really proud to get this one out.”

The raw break-beats drum sounds which we all know and love, paired with modern melodic synthesizer work and dreamy vocals make up the recipe for this standout record. The sonic character oscillates between these energetic grooves and dreamlike states. The release will feature four original collabs, all defining another perspective on the sound between Sasha and Franky.

My passion for house music started from an early age from first having vinyl decks as a teenager in the late 90s. Have always loved the progressive house genre from aspiring djs such as the likes of sasha, Digweed, Anthony papa, dave seaman and quivver. Have recently started djing again in the new era of digital which has took some getting used to, and no I don't use the sync button which you can probly tell sometimes in my sets 😂😂 anyhow
