Selador boss man (job share) Steve Parry is turning 50. Hard to believe when you look at the man's effervescence and energy as he juggles Selador with regular high level gigs, his bespoke promo company SMP3, and of course his blossoming studio exploits.

A true solider of the scene, Steve has dedicated his adult life to club culture, and his abiding passion of discovering and sharing new music, be it from behind the counter at the legendary 3 Beat record store, behind the decks playing at the equally legendary Cream, and as both promoter and resident DJ at cult 00s night Alderaan (all in his home town of Liverpool).

He has long sourced tunes for some of the very biggest DJs (initially via vinyl packages sent from 3 Beat, but quickly adapting to a digital service), and SMP3 has worked with many key labels including Sudbeat, Bedrock, Lost and Found, Frau Blau and Renaissance. Steve's knowledge and enthusiasm remain undimmed.

The advent of Selador has also given Steve a natural home for his finely crafted productions (bar a couple of exceptions which John Digweed nabbed for Bedrock) - and to celebrate this big birthday milestone, we've invited three of Steve's favourite producers to remix three of his previous Seladorian gems.

303V remixed by Doc Martin

Talking of soldiers of the scene, Doc Martin, the much-loved globetrotting, genre straddling DJ, takes Steve's paean to the Liverpool club night, maintains the original's addictive squelchiness, while going for a hypnotically funky workout.

What You Make It remixed by Renato Cohen

Selador favourite Renato Cohen from Brazil keeps the peak time spirit of last year's What You Make It very much intact but adds his own inimitable twist to proceedings. Bass face!

Fenner remixed by Bebetta

Completing our titanic trio, Berlin's creative powerhouse Bebetta takes Steve's evergreen Fenner and wraps its inescapable vocal hook in a dreamy techno blanket. Gorgeous.

Tim Engelhardt returns to Poker Flat Recordings for the first time since his First Contact release in 2020. 

In the meantime the German producer and DJ has been gracing other fine labels such as Stil Vor Talent and Watergate Records, but Poker Flat is delighted to welcome back his distinctive deep and effecting approach to tech house with his new EP Follow.   

Follow is a highly musical track - the live-sounding drums give it a motorik feel, while the bubbling synths and melancholic, jazzy keys bring an element of depth and sophistication.  

Burning is a techier cut, with a thick, rounded bass and some of Tim’s trademark tension building synth lines. It’s the perfect soundtrack for the upcoming festival season.

The highly creative, Paris-based, Romanian electronic music composer and DJ, BOg, returns to John Digweed’s Bedrock label for his first release of 2016, and already there are sparks of electric excitement in the air!

Having been deeply passionate about music since childhood, BOg has risen to his current prominence through releases on the likes of Crosstown Rebels and Alex Niggemann’s Soulfooled label, in addition Bedrock. Some of 2015’s musical highlights were BOg’s original track ‘Ava’ and his remix of the classic Bedrock track ‘Emerald’ on the ‘Re_Structured’ album, along with the dreamy 9-minutes of ‘Rakuten’ on ‘Underground Sound Of Ibiza 2’.

Now, with ‘Rewired’, BOg is raising the creative bar even higher, with 3 new musical masterpieces, showcasing his unique creative talent. The stunning, melody-rich title track perfectly showcases what the young Romanian is capable of, with its dreamy, subtle anthemic attitude. ‘The Other Side Of The River’ takes a slightly deeper melodic route, but the end result is no less enthralling. Finally, with the hypnotic, filmic ambient electronica of ‘Heartless City’, BOg highlights his ability to also create stylish excursions that go beyond the dancefloor.

With talent and releases like this, 2016 is already shaping up to be an amazing year for electronic music!

Stripped Down Records is a brand new label that will focus on raw grooves. Founded by Claudio Ricci and Christian and Monika Zorn, the first release comes from Ricci and features essential remixes from Timo Maas & Basti Grub, Kintar and Metodi Hristov.
Claudio Ricci has nearly 20 years experience in dance music with his music taking cues from all genres and coming on labels like Compost and MoBack. As a DJ he is just as diverse and always leans on more organic sounds and rich melodies. His timeless single here is a great way to kick off the new label.
Entitled ‘Warschauer Strasse’, it is seven excellently expansive minutes of twisted synths that bring real tension to deep house drums. Cosmic keys take the track into intergalactic realms and as the pads percolate they continue to bring raw energy to the groove.
The first remix comes from long time techno heavyweight and Rockets & Ponies boss Timo Maas and the prolific and inventive Basti Grub. Their singular remix speeds up the original and layers in fluttering toms and percussive sounds as well as broad, groaning synths and the distant sound of a bustling city at rush hour. It swells and sinks back a number of times to keep you locked and along for a most thrilling ride.

Steve Parry is unquestionably at the top of the UK scene, regularly playing along side heavy weights such as John Digweed, Sasha, Dave Seamen, Nick Warren, Hernan Cattaneo and Guy J, he is the DJ’s choice of DJ.

Widely respected across the industry, his acclaimed 3 year residency at the iconic Cream in Liverpool, seen him rise to the top, regularly being booked to headline around the world, playing in clubs such as Ministry of Sound and the legendary Space Ibiza.

His ties to his home city of Liverpool are strong, where he managed the world famous 3Beat Records, and as a promoter, Steve had much success, firstly with his legendary ‘Alderaan’ nights which ran from ’97 – 2001 in a room above the infamous Lemon Lounge and helped to shape the very scene Liverpool has become known for to this day.

Now in between touring the world, Steve and long term friend and business partner Dave Seamen head up the Selador label, with many chart toppers under their belt already and many more to come.
