Welcome back to the Kinphonics Guest Mix Series, with this weeks feature artist - Elektropanda (AUS)

"Elektropanda was a little late to the broken beats party, she only started to play broken beats over the last 3 years. With her first time out playing for the Rewind crew, followed by Junkyard, & then gaining regular slots at Rum Jungle at everyone’s former favourite bar Sub Rosa.

Her current love of Garage, Bassline, & Break Beats has gained her regular slots at Amalgarhythmz, Sub Sbass, & she got to feature with the Femme Fatales at Jungle Love last year.

Punters would have heard Elektropanda playing anything from House at regular bookings for Tropical Fruits, Chill music at Earth Frequency, even a bit of pop when she had a residency at the Wickham.

With a diverse taste in music and the love of multi genres, gives her the ability to play to any crowd. Elektropanda’s current repertoire includes Drum & Bass, Breaks, Garage, Bassline, Tech House, Psy Dub, and anything in between to get your booty shaking."

Guest Mix Series: 009 w/ Elektropanda (AUS)

The latest 2-track release from @sanoimusik is a beautiful double-headed organism that moves and pulses, layering elements together to create something more organic. 

Bass music producer Paige Julia, winner of Best Electronic Artist at the 2021 Aotearoa Music Awards, provides an atmospheric breakbeat remix of ‘Together’ reminiscent of mid-90s jungle. She gives an insight into this process:

“I wanted to go for a sadder edge to the track, like a desperate lover begging to be taken back “Please! Keep us together!”. I messed around with some echo effects to get a rhythmic pattern in the notes I was playing, in relation to the arpeggio and rain atmospherics, to convey the feeling of the moment I was conjuring. I knew I was going to redesign the drums and bass sounds to be more in line with my style and we ended up with a jungle influenced track that wouldn’t be out of place from the time of my childhood.” - Paige Julia

Peace, Love, Drums, and Bass

A new Howlround work produced for WhiteNoise.city, using nothing but recordings of hummed vocals and clapping made in the stairwell of East Tower, part of the original BBC Television Centre complex in West London and, at the time of recording, mere weeks away from demolition.

Bioni Samp performed a hybrid binaural DJ Set @Raindance VRX London.

I talked briefly about sound design & performed live with 360 binaural audio design used in The Resistance of Honey & Aftershock. 

Sounds were position in a rectangle room using two pairs of stereo speakers. I played my own released music, bee field recordings with a mixture of vintage vinyl recordings of Aboriginal, Haitian and Native American music. Here is an extract of the two channel live recording. The recording sounds a busy mix because playback in the room, was on 4 speakers (using twin audio spatializers) and has now been mixed down to a stereo mp3 for soundcloud. In the room it sounded more spacious and minimal  :-)

Biog – Short Version
Bioni Samp is an artist, producer and video maker originally from Leeds, Yorkshire. He currently resides in London. He creates experimental electronic music, live and on recordings. He also seasonally works with bees. When not beekeeping, he makes custom audio software and hardware, which he uses in creating his music.

Bioni Samp has been publishing his work since 1995 and has had releases on various labels: Aconito, EMIT (UK) Harthouse (DE) Philtre/Kompakt, Instinct, Minimalizm (USA) RoHS Prod (FR) and Noise Music (BR).

Growing up in Yorkshire to a backdrop of industrial decay next to rural beauty, inspired me to create my own electronic landscapes using cassette, tape loops, bass guitar and a Roland SH-101 synthesiser.

I was influenced and inspired by other Yorkshire locals, Cabaret Voltaire, early Human League, their harsh electronic sound and slide based multimedia live shows.

After studying video and sound in Scotland, it was in Glasgow that I really started to developed my own work and built an early ProTools based electronic studio. Many djing, live electronics gigs and then releases followed.

Over the years I have continued to research and experiment with stereo / binaural, producing recordings and performing live with extreme stereo processing, using mainly my own home made equipment. Recently I have been invited to perform my live electronics in Canada, Sweden, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, Austria, Liverpool, and London.

I have recently performed with my 'Hive Synthesiser' at reRooted Festival at Humber Street Gallery, part of Hull UK City Of Culture 2017. Where I also played a DJ set on the last night of the festival.

I like to create something new for each live performance, my sound constantly evolving between ‘ambient / experimental / field recordings / noise / techno‘.

'Bioni Samp makes his solo debut proper with a finely structured, dark and elemental Ambient Techno EP. Hailing from Leeds, he's already appeared on the London-based Aconito label alongside Nax_Acid with the 'Ghost Bus' EP, but this is his definitive solo statement. Stark ambient pieces bookend four minimal Techno rollers. 'Feather Ings' uses field recordings and plunging subaquatic basses reminiscent of Thomas Köner, and the title track sketches bleak atmospheres around a skeletal hi-hat pattern reminding of DJ Skirt at her most isolated. The Techno tracks are equally carefully constructed, from the rippling, offset roll of 'Todays Skyline' to the SAW-like pulses of 'Oil On Canvas' and the ghostly warehouse space of 'Slinky Makes Reverb'.
