Counting Cars

Quit pacing
you’re making me anxious
time has a bitter flavor
when it’s wasted
on quick favors
intangible meteoric halos
mastered in the shadows

if it won’t be sorely missed
don’t put all your life in this now
or you’ll never get it out
if you don’t give me some time
you will catch me by surprise and I’ll
flee, reluctantly

I haven’t phased out
as many routines
as I plan to
don’t get used to
the way I have always seemed
like I intended to be
was always see-through
