Spite Cathedral takes no hostages with his latest 12” lathe cut EP. In just four tracks, Sound+Matterʼs own Dan Mortazavi has fit everything we love about his solo work. The self-titled track, and EP opener, throws us in a world where industrial techno-infused beats reign. Those are pierced by harsh synth stabs, contributing to an overall sense of electronic hypnosis and paranoia. The brief ambient interludes that follow are showcasing Spite Cathedralʼs usual takes on ambient - the arpeggiated 80s synth worship (Behind the Clouds) and the throbbing noisescapes (This Is Pornography). Dropping the tempo down and through subterranean kick drums and washed down percussion, layered with beautifully dramatic strings and pads, Spite Cathedral makes of Aeon the ultimate closing piece, menacing and deceivingly calming in the same time.

We are thrilled to present the next release on our label: ‘Lost Melodies’ EP by Fau. The long-time BTS associate’s first solo release after an 8-year hiatus contains 3 original tracks, backed with remixes from jamaszka FT, Piotr Figiel, and ISNT.

‘Lost Melodies’ opens with the title track, the only non-dancefloor affair of the EP, in which afterglow bliss meets slight melancholy by means of synth pads, arps, piano, and delicate drum work. Things get into gear on ‘Rays Of The Purple Sun’ where a strong stepping beat and layered drum parts form the backbone for blissful yet moody synth-scapes aimed at entrancing the dancefloor. The final original track titled ‘This Robot Needs A Human Touch’ brings more funk through a propelling breakbeat and vocal stabs, met by yet more dreamy synth parts for a complete cybernetic romance.

Opening the remix set is an intricate IDM mutation of ‘This Robot Needs A Human Touch’ by the one and only yamaszka FT, who weaves drum breaks around an epic synth loop until full-on catharsis. BTS founder ISNT continues with characteristic heavy beats in her rendition of ‘Rays Of The Purple Sun’, smartly using distinct synth parts from the original to build an interesting arrangement. Finally, Piotr Figiel turns to his youth trance influences and delivers an anthemic yet understated deep techno version of ‘Rays Of The Purple Sun’, smoothly closing off the release.

Passarella Death Squad return with the first of three releases to be taken from their forthcoming album 'What We Are, You Shall Be'.

Taking the album's title track to form the basis of this first EP, the original version is deep and pulsating with haunting vocals from Passarella's talented Emilie Albisser.

Alongside the original are three remixes from three unique & wide-ranging artists. First up is CLAIR and after the success of her debut album 'Earth Mothers' described by The Quietus as a "stunningly intricate sound world", this Glasgow-based producer delivers her first ever remix. Her delicate reworking is inspired by the true story of a musician behind a meme account who lives a double life, family at home, while using Instagram to secretly seduce women on the side and includes an audio clip of him. She wanted to highlight sexual harassment on the internet which during the pandemic has left women more open to seduction and manipulation. So the remix is about (as she explains) "the beast within humans".

Taking the original in a completely different direction is Italian producer and DJ, Samantha Togni. She is the founder of Boudica and resident at London's Torture Garden. Here she presents a slamming Techno-driven workout that's primed for dark warehouse nights.

Closing the EP is Düsseldorf's Tolouse Low Trax, the solo project by Detlef Weinrich who is also a member of the group Kreidler. He delivers a raw and more experimental take on 'What You Are, You Shall Be' with dark and atmospheric intentions.
