Christy Essien Igbokwe’s 1979 Afro-funk gem ’You Can’t Change A Man’ has been reemerging lately thanks in no small part to the African Shakedown 12″ released earlier in the year, which brought together four long-lost Afro-disco edits. Here, Borrowed Identity doesn’t do much to the gloriously funky vocal track but extend it and make it a little more DJ friendly.

Just like other musicians and freelancers around the world, times have been tough since we went into lockdown. Despite these uncertain and hard times I naturally ended up creating a positive and upbeat song. 

This melancholy, bedroom pop style song features hints of a Lofi beat and an uplifting brass section to make anyone's day feel more positive. 

The lyrics/title relate to how we need to look out for each other and ask friends and family if they are good. Creating this song helped me mentally the past few months and I hope to spread positivity through the song.

This song was originally featured on a collab album that was only available on Bandcamp, featuring up and coming artists that helped raise money for Birmingham food banks
