Cold Busted is pleased to finally cozy up with familiar label artist Zac Love for a much deserved album release. Lend Me An Ear marks his first full outing on the label, having previously contributed to multiple various artists compilations. There's obvious 'Love' in Zac's name, and the love in his sound is equally so … it comes from lush strings and atmospheric touches laced with drum break beatdowns. He grew up in New Jersey and is heavily influenced by the Golden Era boom bap sounds of the East Coast. Also a member of the Belmar Sol trio and record label, Zac is not afraid of spreading his musical ideas across straight-up instrumental hip-hop, chill downtempo tracks, and uptempo funk jams. Lend Me An Ear follows suit featuring the snappy drums and chopped up bright melodic content of "Choppy Waters Ahead", the vibe-laden and soul-drenched downtempo of the title track, the slightly more jazzy swing of the funk filled "Crazy Meters", and plenty of other highlights for those in search of feel good beats with plenty of traction.

I pulled out my UR vinyl collection and then spent 90 minutes going into the mix. This group have the right to claim a large part of ownership of Electronic Music. I can't think of any other group that has contributed more completely to Electronic Music, but who have with decades of music covering their catalogue been so consistent in their releases. There are tracks in this mix that have 22 years between them on the same label, that is quite a feat for a Record Label. 

UR were to Techno & House what Miles David Bitches Brew was to Jazz. The label of pioneers gets thrown around allot these days, but UR can certainly deserve that title.

Chicago House Most Wanted

Roughly ten years ago—if we pretend the peak pandemic year-and-a-half doesn't count—Lars Dales and Maarten Smeets first came together as Detroit Swindle, before changing their name to Dam Swindle towards the end of 2020. The original name was meant as a tribute to one of their favorite musical legacies, but recognizing that it didn't come across how they meant it, the duo changed their name to pay homage to their other favourite place: Amsterdam. Dales and Smeets have become core parts of the Amsterdam house scene in their time, especially with their excellent Heist Recordings label, which they started back in 2013 (hey, now *that's* literally ten years ago). 

It's easy to understand why the duo have become so popular. In person and onstage, they're goofy, funny guys, the kind of people you might describe as the life of the party. And musically, they're massively appealing, marrying a European tech house strut to deeper and more soulful inspirations, a preoccupation reflected in Heist's impressive artist roster: Ge-Ology, Demuir, Byron The Aquarius, Matthew Herbert and more. 

Their RA Podcast comes at a time of reflection and change, looking back on the decade-plus history of both act and label and plotting their new album, which they say will expand their horizons even more. The mix is eclectic but smooth, pulling together tracks from the likes of Omar-S, Lil Silva, Ruf Dug and Genius Of Time (with one of last year's most underrated tracks). It's always a treat to hear consummate club DJs in a more relaxed mode, and this one's no exception.

Hans Groover (Hans “Christian” Johnsen) is a DJ and emerging music producer living in Rochester, NY. His first exposure to warehouse music was in his hometown of Seattle in the late 90’s, but his love for electronic music really grew durning his time living in San Francisco. Sunset parties (Sunset Sound System) and Burning Man were two huge musical influences of his time in SF.
Hans Groover’s style can be characterized by shades of minimal, smooth mixing, and deep grooves that flirt with the edge of darkness.
In 2023, Hans Groover fulfilled a long term goal of DJing at Burning Man. You can find him as a regular at Martine Kocktails, one of the fastest growing hot spots for electronic music in Rochester, as well as the series of warehouse parties know as Saturnalia.

JenOne (Jen Arena) is from Rochester, NY. Jen is a resident DJ (and founding member)of the DJ crew: Lost in Space. She is also a contributing member and resident DJ of the Signal>Noise music collective.
Her involvement in the underground music scene started in the mid 90’s, which is reflective in some of her track selections today. Jen has been mixing on decks since her early NYC/NJ dance scene days and came out to play on the party circuit in early 2018. Inspiration for this moody set is her personal experience of these isolative times. This is her Quarantine Dream~
