About the CD:
My second ever house CD! I bought this one for my Christmas box through the Metro Centre in Newcastle if I remember correctly and it was the real catalyst for getting me into clubland and house music. Featuring artists that defied genres and  the underground/overground such as Leftfield, Living Joy, Wildchild and Inner City... this was music all of the UK was dancing too not just to cool kids. A pretty amazing time to be a young kid getting into music heavily... my biggest regret... not buying turntables!

To celebrate our 30th episode, we are very honoured to get a recommendation from a Dj that’s played a huge part in the house music scene for over 20 years and someone who’s had a massive influence on myself, house heads around the world, and the CD’s that we feature on this site

After a famous trip to ibiza in the late 80’s… Danny set up his legendary Shoom night in London, which kicked off the rave and acid house scene in the UK. He’s helped cement house music culture in Ibiza, being a key figure in it’s growth on the island. But many know Danny through his radio shows… where he started out at Kiss FM and went onto lead radio one's weekend roster alongside Pete Tong. His Love Groove Dance Party show was the soundtrack to many people's saturday nights and I speak on behalf of thousands, to say it was an pleasure and an education to tune in each and every weekend.

He's had countless mix cd's over the years, some of which we've already featured on the site. But today, he's recommended the Decade of Dance CD, mixed by himself and released on Circa records in 1999. As it represents his favourite tracks throughout the 90's and is full of the gorgeous vocals and feel good house music Danny is know for.

So thanks again for everything Mr. Rampling. We really can't thank you enough for giving us all the amazing music and memories over the years.

115 - Fantazia's Club Classics Vol. 3 mixed by Mike Cosford (1996)

Spin Inn, Eastern Bloc, The Mix Factory, Da Intalex...just some of the Manchester musical institutions and outfits that Mark XTC has been involved with in his now twenty five year career across records shops, clubs and early rave culture.

Playing across hip hop, classic house and also well known as a proponent of Drum and Bass / Jungle throughout his career Mark is a hugely versatile DJ and his Hacienda Tribute mix, published now on this site and soundcloud, sees him take to three decks and CD-J’s in putting it together.

Showcasing the skills throughout, taking accapellas, additional beats and put his own spins on the format, “Always There” and “Dirty Cash” knock out over classics such as Jam The Dance from the outset. A tribute to the recently passed Mark Bell with an airing of “LFO” as Mark throws in the better known tunes such as “Voodoo Ray”, “Promised Land” against US underground  such as Corina’s  “Temptation” 

With extended mixing a feature of the mix, and Mark laying his own markers, scratching in and out, from “French Kiss”, “Higher States Of Consciousness” and the Sasha remix of Better Days, Mark expertly blends the tracks in a set that pulls no punches.

The rarely heard dub of My Friend Sam featuring Viola Willis kicks off the final section of the mix as B Sides Volme II, ”Casanova” and “The Shaker Song” all come together as rare hip hop cut The Doc’s “Portrait Of A Masterpiece” and an untouched “Strings Of Life”  bring Mark’s exhilarating hour to a close.

Martijn we’re sure needs no introduction, a prolific producer/DJ responsible for many killer dance-floor productions. Only 3 DJ’s have been in possession of this new mix, kindly cleared for release on Phonetic by those wonderful people at Defected. 

Guitarra G was one of the biggest records of the year when it was released, if the emails and phone calls from our DJ friends in Ibiza requesting copies are anything to go by…this will be the one to watch this summer.

American House producer Mad Villains aka Adrianne Jackson has rolled through with his latest EP, 'Break it Down', forthcoming on Underground Audio. Currently residing in Leeds, the Californian offers more of his often described 'ghetto' styled house influences, whilst also teaming up with The Golden Boy who provides his own spin on the headline track

Having been hailed as a 'one to watch' and given regular support from BBC Radio 1 and Rinse FM, the EP seriously justifies the claims. 'Break it Down' is aimed straight for the dancefloor, throwing in some punchy and electronically raw sounding drums with some filtered synth interludes and repetitive vocal cuts to make it a seriously powerful late night jam.

Not the first time The Golden Boy has offered his spin on one of the Villain's tracks, his remix of 'Break It Down' takes a more percussive approach, giving his spin of the tune that slightly more traditional house feel.
'Get Sprayed' offers more of Jackson's distinct 'ghetto' formula, this time providing some more gradual build ups, choppier drums and a nice trippy synth interval.

'Tryin' builds serious suspense by blending choppy vocal cuts with a heavily filtered synth line to finally release the track with a real variety of sound effects and a powerful sounding deep house beat to nicely round off the EP.

The title track commences with subtly rousing drums, gradually building up a melancholic groove, perched on a backdrop of warm pads and spiralling synths.

A quietly underrated producer and accomplished musician, Rapson's name may be unfamiliar to most but his talents are undeniable. A versatile artist, he worked as a session musician on Ben Westbeech's critically-acclaimed Brownswood Recordings releases and was for some time known for a broken beat-type sound, before his sublime white-label edit of Marvin Gaye's 'Mercy Mercy Me' was picked up and supported by Gilles Peterson.

'Heat' is a sparkling gem of a house record, echoing Disclosure's weightless bouncing basslines with beautifully clear-cut vocals from Nathan Thomas on top. Hotly anticipated by house heads worldwide, Rapson's 'Heat' finally gets a full release on Defected alongside a remix from Scott Diaz who creates a tougher groove, bringing the track firmly down to earth. Finally, Sweden's OPOLOPO's remix sees the track transform into a nu-disco rendition with a warm summer feel.
