Biography:

In his zone from deep house to techno, Ben Annand pairs impeccably smooth mixing skills with a dynamic style that keeps the music moving, artfully playing with breakdowns and spending most of his time in the mix.

“For me, a great mix is the interplay of 2 unique pieces of music, creating something greater than the sum of the parts - and a great set weaves those mixes into a musical flow you can’t help but lose yourself in on the dance floor.”

Ben fell in love with dancing and rave culture in 1995, and learned to mix in 1996. Just 2 years later he became resident dj at the famed Moontribe Gathering, and started his own production company, Tropical. The first half of his career was mostly focused on DJing abroad, with 13 trips to Moscow’s Propaganda club, travel across Russia, Spain, and Mexico, an appearance at Wiggle at Fabric in London and two at the Labyrinth Festival in Japan.  

In more recent years, Ben Annand became a top West Coast festival DJ, and recently played a standout set at his 5th consecutive Lightning in a Bottle (CA). He has also appeared at Sunset Campout and Desert Hearts (CA), Oregon Eclipse (OR), Photosynthesis and Cascadia (WA), Shambhala and Motion Notion (BC, Canada).

As organizer of Tropical, he's donated over $32,000 to charity, hosted zero-waste events in Hawaii, and presented gender-balanced dj lineups.

Whatever his project,, Ben Annand is always contributing, and always thinking outside the box.

Tropical started in a warehouse on October 9, 1998, and moved around to different warehouses until making one home in 2003, known as the Tree House.  In 2004 and 2005 Tropical was almost monthly between the Tree House, and newly started boat parties out of Long Beach.  In June and September 2007 were the first 2 Tropical campouts, in Bonsall, CA at the venue now known as the Fire Garden.  In 2008 and 2009 Tropical went to Zuma State Beach in Malibu for summertime Tropical Beach Parties.  

Though occasionally still in a warehouse, since 2011 Tropical has been primarily outdoors, with the main events being the summer boat party and fall/winter Tropical Oasis Retreat, most recently seen on Kauai (Hawaii).  Tropical is 100% nonprofit, donating all proceeds after cost to charity.

Jonny Bell came into the electronic dance music arena in late 2008. Attending events all over the Northwest and West Coast; From club nights to warehouse shows; He quickly developed an undying dedication to the vibing underground community that he had found. In the year following, now hailing from Eugene as dedicated home base. Jon & Co launched Digital Disciple Sound System with the event Inner City Rumble at Ken Kesey Square in the Spring of 2010. Since the creation of Digital Disciple Sound System, Jonny has been busy working along side many other crews to help provide quality sound and atmosphere for as many events as time would allow. Digital Disciple Sound System has been apart of events such as Eugene New Years Eve 2010-2011, Aries Dawn, Playground 2010, and Stop, Drop and Roll, Sound Wave (PDX); Also participating in community oriented events such as HIV Alliance “Walk For A Cure”, Lanestock, and Arcimoto’s unvieling of smart car “Red 5”. Their relentless motivation to keep the party going and the vibe high is the inspiration for the event production crew EVERYDAY Tribe. Regularly hosting 21+ bar shows and larger scale events such as EVERYDAY Tribe presents: Christian Martin, Freakuency, and I<3Techno.  EVERYDAY Tribe has been a collaborative effort from many of Eugene’s most activated artists, dj’s, producers, promoters and warm hearted party kids.
   Jonny's high energy, persistency, and passion for creating deep experiences with positive people is no doubt reflected in the hearts of the dance floors he works to create every weekend. It's reflected as a sound system owner/operator, event producer, and DJ. Independently as a DJ, Jonny Bell has began his ascent into the ranks of local rosters and bookings at events such as Freakuency, Winter Wonderland 2, Music Makers: New Years Eve W/ Wally Calerio, I<3TECHNO, Eugene Celebration at New Oddyss Juice Bar, Human Nature Festival, and Earthdance Northwest. His style behind the decks is inspired by Eugene’s history of groove oriented house music and an eclectically wilder side of the international Techno scene. Playing along side artists such as Wally Calerio of Dufflebag Records, Treavor Moontribe of Desert Dwellers, Matt Minimal of 1605 Music Therapy, and Luke Mandala of Get Physical Records and alongside local artists such as DJ Britz, Ghostwire, and Andrew Matuas has influenced and helped him hone his skills on stage.  His production of dance music has began to give Jonny international attention. Recently  he was a winner in a remix competition for Away Recordings in Lithuania.
