Bearded Lounge Sunday Sessions Monthly Mix #2 by Iry Sabir 210822

Episode 89 saw me cram in a good variety of oldies alongside a load of new bits too. I took the route of starting slow and building up instead of jumping around the BPMs, kicking things off with my new one on the excellent Hot Gorilla compilation that’s storming the Junodownload charts right now. Building through a succession of new and old tunes covering funk, disco and a few flavours of house, I brought you promos from FF Edits, Le Croque, Sam Redmore, Reece Johnson, Chemars, Workerz and myself. 

In hour 2 I present to you a wonderfully funky guest mix from Madrid’s Da Groove Brothers. This one is right up my street - the sort of music I love but don’t know enough about… sleazy, fonky, lower tempo tunes full of vocoders, crisp beats and bendy synths. Funkier Radio Episode 89 - Da Groove Brothers Guest Mix

It’s a pleasure to welcome my buddy Craig Adams as my guest this week. He always plays an absolute blinder, and I am a regular listener to his own radio show.

It all started for Craig as a clubber who loved this music and started collecting all the 12” records that he heard in the clubs and on the radio. He was naturally drawn into DJing, and learnt to mix on Tandy belt-drive turntables. In his own words, “the belt-drives were murder as was the mixing”

As for the rest of his musical journey, here are some more words from the man himself.

“I still have all the 12”s I bought, must have close to 2000 of them, mainly House and Old-Skool from 90s. I got myself some Technics eventually but the mixing never improved much, although the new tech has made it all too easy.

Kevin Jones from Radio Fourth Edinburgh was my main inspiration which is mad because I played a Clubnight for which he was a no show for 1 night in Club M8, and now I’m in his old radio show slot on Radio Saltire when he decided to hang up his headphones. I’ve been involved there now for around 5 years, starting out as part or Elements of Rhythm show, then on my own with my HouseNation Radio Show for the past 3 years. I’ve been playing gigs in Glasgow and Edinburgh where all proceeds go to keep the station running.

The last gig we had Yomanda headlining and previous to that we have had Dream Frequency and other top names DJs from the Oldskool side for our Back2Basics Show. 

I recently became part of the NDC Radio crew, broadcasting my HouseNation show. Big thanks to Karen Scargall and Andy Yorkee Knowles for the opportunity and looking forward for all the good things ahead and a big thanks to Pete Ellison for having me on his show”
