Convotronics is the future-past of hip-hop—a sonic collision of raw 90s boom bap, LA’s Low End Theory experimentalism, and the subversive pulse of modern bass music. The project thrives at the intersection of analog soul and digital chaos, where dusty drum loops swing like broken clocks and basslines, ripped from jungle and drum & bass, lurch and swell like they’re alive.

At its core, Convotronics is more than just beats—it’s a full-bodied experience shaped equally by sound and voice. That voice belongs to 4nzix, the group’s lyrical architect. With a delivery steeped in the cadence and clarity of golden era MCs, 4nzix doesn’t just rhyme—he renders scenes. His bars move like film grain, pulling you through smoky alleyways, inner monologues, sci-fi street corners, and revolutionary dreams. Every verse is a visual composition, sharpened with wit, memory, and an unmistakable presence.

Backing him up is Tony O, a seasoned turntablist and producer whose style is equal parts precision and chaos. With years behind the decks, Tony O brings classic DJ craftsmanship to a futuristic sound, lacing the beats with razor-sharp cuts, melodic scratching, and seamless transitions that elevate each track into performance. 

Together, Convotronics is a singular force: part beat tape, part mind movie, fusing chopped soul samples, warm synth arpeggios, deep filtered bass, and lyrical storytelling into something tactile and cinematic. It's music for headphone purists and warehouse dancers, crate diggers and glitch lovers—hip-hop that remembers its roots while scanning the horizon for what's next.

The Northwood & 4 Communal Music Production Studio was established in 2012 in Columbus, Ohio, with the purpose of providing a well-equipped environment for area musicians of a variety stripes to work, rehearse, and record. The studio is a non-profit, community-based enterprise.

Northwood & 4 began releasing albums in partnership with Norway-based Sparkwood Records in early 2016, serving primarily as a U.S. branch of the label—both Northwood & 4 and Sparkwood Records share a passion for ambient, drone, and left-field electronic music, as well as a commitment to bringing such music to a wider audience.
