Originally I was going to release a lighter song about femininity and grace first. A song dedicated to my daughters to move into my first set of solo releases outside of Neon Cities (https://soundcloud.com/neoncities).  But after thinking about it, it became quite clear that the last year of life had weighed me with so much sorrow, and rage, and pain, that the first releases needed to be this darker material.  The songs I wrote to cope with death, to cope with the pain caused by a global pandemic.  The songs I used to deal with the mass indifference I saw to the suffering of other human beings.  This simply necessitated that this material come first.  The songs needed to be free of me, and me of them.  

These songs, and the sense of community I find in darker and harder music, helped me work through the sorrow.  The community aspect was taken from us, but the songs were not.  Without question, I wrote these songs to help me process first and foremost, but also in the songs lies some hope they might help others. That the work may bring others some peace, some closure.  I hope these songs, or really….any song, can serve as a checkpoint, to say  “this is behind me now, and I can let myself feel, and well, just be, other things.” These songs still can make me to cry, or get me belligerently pist, and many times, that is exactly what I need for the work.  

For your consideration, for our dead, and most importantly, for those of us they leave behind. May we all find some sense of peace at the disco, or, simply in our headphones.  

Also, please get vaccinated if you are not medically prohibited from doing so.  We have buried enough folks from this.

SPOILER ALERT - I LIKE HOUSE MUSIC.

I built a career off of playing Drum and Bass. It is what I am known for. I’ve spent the last 28 years of my life trying to be the absolute best DJ I can possibly be. The best technician. A “DJ’s DJ”. During my life behind the decks I have experimented playing a wide array of musical styles - House, Techno, Trance, Breaks, Dubstep, Happy Hardcore, Gabber, you name it I have probably dabbled in it or even played an entire set of it over the years. And after all this time I can say that House music is as near and dear to my heart as Drum and Bass. I love the vibe and the groove and the egalitarian nature of it. It is music for the (party) people. 

Back in April I decided that I wanted to showcase MY kind of House and started up a monthly event at Jupiter Disco in Brooklyn called “Dance The Way I Feel” with my friend Maks P. It is a fun night where I get to push tons of filtered disco house, tech house and techno (good vibes guaranteed!). This mix is a taste of some of what I play. It is unadulterated dancefloor DANCE music. It is a mix of tunes both old and new, specifically chosen for maximum impact. 

On another note, this mix is an introduction to a new DJ persona that I will be adding to my Dieselboy project. Look out for the name HALEN at fine venues everywhere. I am looking forward to bringing the heavily-layered 4 deck mixing style I’ve honed over the years into the realm of the House scene.

I have been writing music since I was twelve years old. I starting out playing my Grandmother's guitar she gave me. Music has always been a passion of mine. For example when I was 3 or 4 years old I had imaginary friends who were in a band. I guess that is why I started playing guitar. I was introduced to electronic music around 1996 by my older sister. I was so fascinated with the infinite amount of possibilities that you can do with the sounds. I became "Hooked" on synthesis from there on. I would buy any type of keyboards, synths, or anything that made a noise. The rest is all history.
