Mabiisi is the natural artistic encounter between acclaimed Burkinabè MC Art Melody and Stevo Atambire, one of the most influential kologo musicians of Ghana. Both artists speak languages that are close, they hail from similar cultures, yet their people have been left estranged and distant by the colonial boundaries of the region.

Mabiisi means "brothers from a same mother" in both the Frafra language of northern Ghana and the Mooré language of Burkina Faso's Mossi people. The concept stems from Art Melody's wish to reconnect with his musical roots, his desire to go back to the time when his voice encouraged farmers, as a young boy singing in the fields with his mother. The boy is now an experienced international artist, considered one of the most significant voices in African hip hop. Likewise Stevo Atambire has experienced tremendous success at home in the north of Ghana, as well as on the road as part of Wanlov the Kubolor's innovative Afro Gypsy Band.

Within moments of Mabiisi’s first encounter, it became palpable that the pair’s musical worlds intersected in many places: both artists are deeply rooted in their culture, and have performed and collaborated across continents. Both artists have an urge to push the boundaries of their musical worlds, and a need to spread their message to the broadest possible audience.

Benjamin Fröhlich's 2016 ep "Rude Movements" gets the remix treatment by some of his favourite artists : Permanent Vacation long time collaborator and partner in crime Lauer  tugs "Amos" in with a very cosy Frankfurt Trance blanket, while Running Back regular Shan pulls out the curls of "Holloway" thanks to his magic styling iron. The result : a pumping and string heavy affair.
On the flipside Brussels's Wunderkind Cleveland, who'll appear soon in our podcast series, delivers an energizing and mesmerizing breakbeat version of "Ghost Orchid" for the magic moments in life. While our friends Jack Pattern come correct with a cosmic disco reinterpretation of "Spitting Image" !

Tale Of Us present a new collaboration with Vaal for the sixth release on their Afterlife label. Three years after they teamed up for ‘Concur’ and began to tour together, the trio return with their most anthemic offering yet. Vaal’s hauntingly-beautiful and instantly-recognisable vocals are the centre-piece on ‘Monument’, building on the style of her Wander To Hell EP (AL002). The drums and shimmering synth lines are moody and uplifting in the way Tale Of Us have made their own, arranged perfectly for the psychedelic breakthrough.

On the flip side, ‘The Hangar’ takes a different approach to equally devastating effect. It pumps with added urgency and a thunderous, steely bassline lunges out from the low-end. Designed for large soundsystems and big rooms, ‘The Hangar’ finds Tale Of Us and Vaal at their most direct and it’s something to behold.

Barnt and Stephan Bodzin, two artists whose stand-out performances at recent Afterlife events have made them firm favourites with the crowds, are tapped for the remixes (AL007). They both take on ‘Monument’, Barnt opting for a rolling, percussive direction and Bodzin more ethereal and transportive.

Ian O'Donovan is an Irish based producer whose music has featured on a wide range of labels ranging from Drumcode and Tronic to Planet E and Kevin Saunderson’s KMS.

Having already proved himself a rising star, Ian O'Donovan’s trademark sound combines uplifting melodies and tribal rhythms with timeless techno grooves.

This stunning three track release is Ian O'Donovan’s third release on Intec, and showcases why he is an artist popular with everyone from John Digweed to Dave Clarke.

The first track “Voodoo Doll” has a tribal groove provided by congas and a looped vocal chant. Building with tension as the bassline's held notation swells and grows ever more prominent, this powerful track packs a punch and fuses classic techno with contemporary sound design.

Track two titled “Hardline” is spacious with a haunting melody and shimmering, eerie pads that combined with muffled vocals, create a spooky atmosphere. Carried home by the hammer of the pounding kick drum, this dark track is certainly a force to be reckoned with.

Finishing off the release is “Suspicion” which has an uplifting melody and pulsating stabs, that when blended with robotic synths, give the track a sci-fi feel. Snare rolls and dramatic vocals spoken in whisper add to the tracks already epic sound, and complete the melodic techno groove.
