Haiku 2 - Mountain Forest

Failing Our God

This one takes some explaining. It's using the Fibonacci Sequence for some selecting of pitch. The sequence first ascends and defines the harp in melodic minor with an original line in counterpoint on the viola. Then everything is descending chromatic sequences with different starting notes. Then the sequence creates root motion in major (with descending arpeggios on top), and finally we are back to melodic minor ascending, but the sequence grows a vertical chord. This is all inspired by John 15. "I am the vine. You are the branches." Hence the Fibonacci use throughout. Upward motion for our abiding in God. Downward motion for God's cutting away. Downward motion, "Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you", and finally upward motion in hymn like harmonic rhythm tilted in score as "Reverance". The overall form is from John Cage's methods of phrasing with time signatures and phrases in groups of 3, 7 and 5 and the inverted 5, 7, and 3 (all goodness or complete numbers in biblical numerology). A bit involved, but very fun to write!
