‘Black Drop Effects’ is named after the Black Drop Effect, the dark bridge which appears to join two almost-touching bodies against bright light: famously, Venus becoming teardrop- shaped on its transit across the sun, just before it moves into the darkness of space. All four tracks on this EP from Italian-born producer Palese are named after scientific aspects of the planet Venus, confirming that industrial can most certainly still be intriguing.
The EP surprises you with twists and turns, defying any stereotypical assumption of techno being all uniform monotony. Here, with each hi hat and rolling bassline, Palese weaves a multi-coloured fabric for the listener – great quality techno, the type that makes your nose tingle.

Kicking off with 735K (the surface temperature of Venus), don’t expect to be eased in gently, as this is a worthy cut with a tempo tough enough to shake the walls of Amnesia’s Main Room. Next, fellow Italian duo Speaking Minds step in, revving up the original whilst creating a more melancholic soundscape, showcasing their penchant for melodic electronic.

Transit of Venus is the epitome of deep, trippy and dancefloor-ready, steering the listener into murkier unknown waters, and preparing them for the heaviest track on the EP, 4.9, titled after the planet’s brightness... and this is a hefty wedge of carnal techno that the rest of the EP has you panting for. Palese has achieved what every artist creating a new (planetary) body of work sets out to do - each track strong enough to stand (and in fact raise a dancefloor) on its own, but an EP that as a whole tells a story, shooting the listener into a delirious galactic techno trance.

Illumination is a record inspired by several physical phenomenons and relationships, quantum mechanics, space, darkness and light. It is a body of work focusing on complex sound frequency experimentations and illuminating questions around consciousness as well as awareness 
- triggered by deep emotions about being a human - reacting to sound and music.
It works with subtle, clear kaleidoscopic musical textures and silhouettes triggered from an unknown place far out in the universe. Just as Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell has experienced the zen-like experience of seeing earth from space to a state of mind also known as the overview effect, 
or Savikalpa Samadhi, some eastern philosophies address the same topic from a different angle. 
Two objects, even far apart from each other in space can be energetically entangled and connected.
Darkness is absence of light. Life and energy is light. Light is invisible until it surfaces. In the zero point sleeps all potential energy. But above all now enjoy the music.

Oliver Huntemann's beloved globetrotting mix series PLAY! is set to touch down for its highly- anticipated fifth edition in Vienna. Having journeyed through four of the world's best nightclubs on four continents, PLAY! 05 is the most recent glimpse into Oliver's DJ mindset: the tracks he's playing, the stories he's telling, the journey he is undertaking, and the ever important relationship he has with the dancefloor.
The PLAY! series has provided Oliver Huntemann a unique platform – allowing him to showcase the tight, nuanced techno and tech-house that he’s pioneered over the last two decades. Following the highly effective format of live recording Oliver performing at some of the most iconic clubs in the greatest cities of the world, all PLAY! editions also include a little something extra: a track created exclusively for the compilation, and named for the city the mix is recorded in.
The A-side "Schnitzel" is a deeper darker shade of the classic Huntemann sound, with long synth trails and inky tones, perfect for diving deep into the after hours, while the closing track of PLAY! 05's first half, "Vienna" takes the flip side stage on this two-track EP. With its chant-along robotic vocals of "Freak Out / Exhale", and subtly minimalist tech house tempo, it is an example of a master slowly building towards a peak.
