It’s a playful and uplifting mixture of obscure French tracks from the 70s and 80s that takes in a wide range of styles, scenes and tempos. Having first become aware of the Macadam Mambo label fairly recently through Craig from Joe’s Bakery’s mix on Test Pressing, which featured Muslim Disco Club’s sublime, Osjecam track, we’ve been delighted to discover more of the label’s output over the last few weeks and months. This mix that Sacha has generously provided, Special French, is the perfect party starter and should prove to be suitably entertaining. To keep up to date with their releases and general goings-on, the Macadam Mambo SoundCloud profile is worth keeping an eye on here. And at the end of this month, their latest releases, MME606 and MMX101 will be out in all good record shops. Check the Macadam Mambo website here as well. Mixtape for Racket Racket

Fifty years ago, Harry Taussig and Max Ochs were featured on a sampler LP, 'Contemporary Guitar - Spring '67', alongside John Fahey, Robbie Basho, and Bukka White. Both guitarists were "re-discovered" by Tompkins Square in 2005, and have since released new recordings for the label.

On May 26th, Tompkins Square will release 'The Music of Harry Taussig & Max Ochs' featuring newly recorded material, commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Takoma sampler they first appeared on. The pair will also meet for the first time and play select shows on the West Coast. The May 28th concert in Berkeley will also feature Tompkins Square recording artist Richard Osborn, a student of the late Robbie Basho.

After just 6 months since first seeing Big Yawn perform, we are thrilled to welcome them to the Research family. A compelling prelude to their debut album "No!" due out in late 2019.

Over six years the Melbourne-based group has evolved, with members of the band running various releases through label and collective Fallopian Tunes. As of 2019, Big Yawn had become a four-member music group, motivated by a history of studio production, prolific collaboration and quality hangout time.

The groups freshest effort 'Skin Rat/Thomas' captures the band performing live in the studio, and it's typical Big Yawn: fat and punchy low-end bass; drums and live drum processing; delay fx samples; thick syrupy synths. 'Skin Rat' is a hyperbolically dubbed out, tongue in cheek, magnetic blend of UK garage, footwork and breaks. And 'Thomas' takes cues from a slightly damaged post-punk sound, amplifying a brittle and sinister type of atomic porn-funk.

St.Petersburg Sound Systems are HOAVI and TSKTCH. The two have been widely known for their solo projects, with releases ranging from every kind of genre you could only think of. No wonder that the production versatility has brought them together to collaborate and join the creative forces in studio. Instead of going after a particular sound, the duo was mainly focused on experiments with sound and improvised one-shot jams, results of which were mostly unpredictable, yet unique and unearthly.

The sound shaped by the cultural capital of Russia we could describe as a mysterious pathway between cinematic ambient and hazy atmospheric dance music. The buildings, the nature, the weather and all the surroundings are translated into the sound reflecting the musicians’ connection with the city. All elements on this EP are incredibly well orchestrated and arranged.There are not so many cities that were privileged enough to be associated with a certain music genre like Chicago or Detroit, but we are more than certain that their signature sound is opening a new chapter representing the sound, the sound of Saint-P.
