Ana Tijoux (born in 1977 in France, daughter of Chilean exiles) is one of the most influential voices in contemporary Latin American music. Her style blends hip hop, conscious rap, and Latin American roots, with lyrics charged with social critique, historical memory, and cultural affirmation. From her beginnings with the group Makiza to her solo career, she has built a body of work that fuses rhythm and poetry with strong political and human commitment.

“1997” is one of her most personal songs. In it, Tijoux returns to her intimate story, reflecting on childhood, displacement, and the scars of exile. With a melodic and confessional tone, the song connects the biographical with the universal, showing how music can be a space for healing, remembering, and resisting. Dear Reader,
It’s rare that I find the moment for a long walk on a Saturday night. Last weekend I fortunately did or better: The moment found me and so I found myself walking through empty side streets of Berlin, listening to upcoming music of Oceanvs Orientalis and Wide Awake. Both are following different paths, both are very beautiful and both proof that finally we’re done with the abuse of certain instruments. For now it seems the disguised devils are defeated and we are ready to move on to the next level. But don’t you worry, the next hype is just waiting around the corner!
At 5 in the morning my physical journey led me to Kraftwerk Berlin for Maerzmusik-Festival, where I lay down on one of the camp beds they provided. What a treat! I was taken far away by the music and had some transcendental moments that made me want to send out my fondest regards to you.
A little bit earlier, last week, I finally managed to finalise and let go a lot of new and old tracks, ready to be released in the coming months (or years). Today I happened to find another track that I don’t need to keep in my personal drawers anymore. 
The working title „New Year“ suggests it happend around NYE, probably eight years ago.
I almost decided to keep the title, as to me it feels like a new year is just starting now, but when I saw these words on the wall, I thought that might be the right name for the song. 
It’s free. And you don’t even need to like me to download it.
