This is a piece I wrote for the upcoming Peter Forbes-helmed film from Advent Film Group: "The Screenwriters." Throughout this score I was continually toeing the line between bid-band styled stuff and that golden era cinema sound, which was a ton of fun to write.

A Midnight's Sky

"...the only home we've ever known" is an arrangement of the fourth movement of a marimba solo based on ASMR and an excerpt from Carl Sagan's "Pale Blue Dot." In this particular movement, each voice moves by a specific total number of half steps per measure and then intuitively composed around. Marimba solo written for and premiered by Jessica Hughes; wind ensemble arrangement recorded by the ASU Wind Ensemble.

The Upward Call (Official Metropolis Ark 2 Demo - Lib Only)

Two-Faced is a piece written for solo Bb Clarinet, with a solo Bass Clarinet version also available. This piece is based off of the character of the same name from Batman. During the piece the performer is reading either the line of Order or the line of Chaos. The line is chosen by flipping a coin at certain portions of the piece. In this performance, the soloist is flipping the coin on stage, where it is possible to complete all of the coin flips before you begin the performance. In this performance, Braeden McKibben in playing Clarinet.

Benjamin Dawson is a composer, theorist and violinist. He is currently pursuing his D.M.A. in composition at the University of Georgia, studying with Dr. Adrian Childs. As part of his duties at UGA, Dawson teaches Aural Skills III and IV. Prior to this, Dawson was adjunct professor at East Tennessee State University (Johnson City, TN) and King University (Bristol, TN) teaching Theory and Orchestration courses. Dawson earned his M.M. in Theory/Composition from Appalachian State University (Boone, NC), studying composition with Dr. Ben Hjertmann and theory with Dr. Jennifer Snodgrass. During undergrad, he studied composition with Dr. Maria Niederberger at ETSU. 

Dawson has composed a dozen independent film scores and has arranged/orchestrated over twenty projects for Symphony of the Mountains (Kingsport, TN. Recent compositional endeavors include the writing and producing of his second work for musical theatre, four orchestral charts to accompany a bluegrass band, and a piece for viola, bass clarinet and percussion that depicts the effect of natural disaster on the Georgia coastline. Dawson is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda and is in frequent demand as a performer and teacher.
