Pain and Suffering is my latest composition written in the style of Twelve-Tone Composition that honestly I wrote in a day. This was my final project for Music History IV at UNCO and although I love my professor and I enjoyed writing this, I really had no interest in the piece until I started putting stuff on paper. Overall, I think this is fine and it does the job. I had more fun recording this in the classroom then I did writing it. However, due to the performance being on my phone and in poor quality, I made an acceptable version in Finale to publish

Dusk to Dawn

Here is my contribution to the December 2021 Basschat Composition Challenge, illustrated with a picture chosen by the Master of Ceremonies: Lurksalot.
Not a lot to say about this one; it's all in the song. A long-time favourite, it's become sadly more apt and poignant as Life deals out its cards. They're not all aces.
I had intended playing the instruments myself, but decided after many attempts that it would not be fair to inflict that upon you all, so I fell back on a choice of Vst's (somewhat limited due to the loss of a 3Tb USB disk...). For the vocal, I couldn't (and still can't...) find my Superlux mic, so had to buy another (Marantz MPM 1000...) which has proved to be very satisfactory. My voice, however, has not. As I said, it's not all aces.

L'ère industrielle

This composition was made in the emotion of numbness, my mental state was pensive  and I felt disconnected to my surroundings at the time. But after composing 'Pensive', I found contentment. I did another composition with the same chords rearranged, to describe that emotion.
The two tracks was part of my exam at RMC, the class i took that semester was about locating your personal soundcode. A very interesting way of reflecting over what creates the sound coming out of ones mind.

I work as a scientist for a living & am a hobbyist composer. Please listen to the advice of scientists and public health experts, the world needs it! The world also needs more appreciation for community and diversity, both for the sake of creating a welcoming global community and for the sake of being prepared to tackle, together, the even greater challenges that will come our way in the future (climate change, etc).

For my music, I try to write in multiple styles, including classical compositions, jazz-ish instrumentals inspired to some degree by Zappa's instrumental writing, and experimental/avant garde compositions and soundscapes. I recommend headphones. All of my music is released under a Creative Commons Attribution/Noncommercial license.

If anyone wants to try performing any of this stuff on real instruments please send a message and I can provide scores. Not sure how playable some of it is for human musicians though.

Hi Everyone! Welcome to my SoundCloud where I post all of my original compositions and arrangements! My name is Reed Benson, I am 22 years old. My dream is to write music hopefully to someday be within the film industry writing film scores, and so far I'm getting better. So that is why I want to share my music with all of you. In all of my tracks info, I leave my personal description and sometimes even some historical context on the song/arrangement. I also post a full list of what instruments are in the song (unless said in the title), my social media links and even a purchase link if the song was published!

I also write my music with a software called Finale. Right now, I have Finale V.26. I started writing with SongWriter 2012 back in 2013, PrintMusic 2014 in 2015, then Finale 2014.5 in 2016 and Finale V25 in 2018. I strongly recommended any new composers or composers looking to switch to try a free trial of Finale! I have also started using Digital Performer 10 to write some of my compositions due to the UNCO composition program. I am currently taking a year in film scoring lessons so we will see how that goes!
