Marcos Carnaval just won’t stop. With new singles being released almost every week, it’s a wonder he had time to create his new EP, “Tribal”. Consisting of 6 new original and remixed tracks featuring the likes of Rodrigo Vieira, Eduardo Jose, and more, it seems all of his determination is paying off. Marcos’s original track, “Drums”, transports you into a primal jungle, while “Mosca”, another of his original mixes, has hauntingly sweet vocals with a steady beat perfect for the dance floor. True to his native Brazilian culture, his ear for the Latin flare melds seamlessly with these progressive and house melodies.

Marcos Carnaval, Eduardo Jose - 808 Problems (Original Mix)

I recorded two contrasting klezmer tunes recently and that was all I planned to do, but my good friend in Chile, Francisco, sent me an intriguing track he had made, mixing my Long Live the Nigun with a drone, a rabbi, and a beautiful Jewish cello melody. This track produced all sorts of gorgeous accidental sounds, but to do full justice to the melody and Francisco's idea I decided to record a brand new clarinet part to fit. 

The clarinet you hear on this track was the very first take, and is completely unedited. Things don't usually come that easily! Listening back I got a strong feeling for Gustav Meyrink's powerful novel, The Golem, a hallucinatory depiction of the Ghetto in Prague, full of flickering shadows and dark alleys. If you ever visit Prague, read it before you go. So I added the bells of St Vitus' Cathedral in Prague…impossible to describe how physical an experience it is to stand in the square and listen to these bells in full swing…almost frightening.

Luxar is Tom Oke, a producer & DJ based in Brixton, London.  After a childhood obsession with Michael Jackson, his first introduction to Dance music came in 1987 with 'Pump Up The Volume' by M/A/R/R/S.  Even at the age of 7 he was fascinated by this cut-up audio collage, piecing together snippets of tracks on his cassette recorder.  DJing in clubs and bars throughout the UK, he became involved in the mashup movement of the early-mid 2000s.  Frequenting the legendary 'Bastard' night in London's West End, he went on to become one of the Lead Producers on the DJ Hero videogames, creating many levels for the games and working with some of the biggest names in the industry.  Since then he has produced many tracks and remixes, including releases on the Juicy label, one of which was remixed by the amazing Sweater Beats.  His influences range from 80s Disco/Boogie, Pop/Dance crossover hits of the late 80s, Euro Dance, Synthwave and Nu Disco.  His tracks offer a modern take on the sounds of the past - an album is in the works for 2014.

This Jackson 5 Remix is a homage to the amazing song and dance of Michael Jackson.
