Scottish /Australian Dramatic Mezzo-Soprano Gemma McNamee recently completed a Masters of Music (vocal & operatic performance) an the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM)  and obtained her Bachelor of Music at the University of Western Australia (UWA).

Known for her beauty of tone, vocal flexibility, and dramatic abilities,Gemma starting her singing life as a Soprano and later retraining as a Dramatic Mezzo-Soprano. As a result Gemma’s performance experience is varied and includes the roles of both Verdi and Vaughan Williams’ Mistress Quickly (Oxenfoord International Summer School), The Older Woman in Flight (RNCM scenes), Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni (RNCM scenes), María Corona in The Saint of Bleecker Street (RNCM scenes), Micaëla in Carmen (UWA), Athamas in Semele (UWA) as well as Magda Sorrel in scenes from Menotti’s The Consul. She has also sung in the chorus of Orpheus in the Underworld, The Marriage of Figaro and Plains of Promise during her time at UWA.

With an affinity for contemporary repertoire, Gemma recently performed the solo in the world premiere of Mark Holdsworth’s Komm Du. 

Gemma has also appeared as emerging artist with Art Song Perth and has performed as soloist with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra Chorus as part of their WASO Chorus Sings series.
