Miles could play over any type of music from any era and make it sound great. Every decade brought a new sound. This was Miles' post 70's fusion style. Much slicker. Technology had moved on in the 80's and he could now exploit synths, sequencers and drum machines.
Tutu was mostly a bunch of completed but unreleased tracks written by Marcus Miller. Wisely Marcus asked Miles to play on it and took it to the next level!
This track is named in tribute to Archbishop Desmond Tutu, the first black Anglican Archbishop of Cape Town, South 
Miles received the 1987 Best Jazz Instrumental Performance, Soloist Grammy Award for his performance on Tutu. Initially Tutu was panned by the critics but, you know what Miles would say to them? "So What!"

Here's my respectful re-imagining of the Jazz standard "So What" by Miles Davis. To say it is not like the original is an understatement. It's funky. 
I did release a version with no horns on it. I did ask some Soundcloud trumpeters for a collaboration but they shied away! Can't blame them, these are big boots to fill. 
The trumpeter who not only has the hutzpah but also the talent to play Miles is Jordy Waelauruw from Jakarta / Indonesia.  You can find him at https://soundcloud.com/jordy-trumpet
So my version has two Steely Dan type guitar solos and breaks into a swing jazz section in between. See if you can spot my vocal debut!
What I like about Miles is that he reinvented himself every decade he was playing. He also reinvented jazz with the album 'Kind of Blue' from which 'So What' was the opening track.
The actor Dennis Hopper, in an interview in 2008 with Men's Journal, claims that Davis named the song after intellectual conversations with Hopper, in which Hopper would reply, "So what?"
According to Wikipedia...
"So What" is one of the best known examples of modal jazz, set in the Dorian mode and consisting of 16 bars of D Dorian, followed by eight bars of E♭ Dorian and another eight of D Dorian. This AABA structure puts it in the thirty-two-bar format of American popular song.
I didn't know that.... I just played it... but then I say the same as Miles...SO WHAT!

For this track I've gone back to my blues roots. The solo starts off very clean but soon descends into anarchy. The name of the preset I used on my guitar pedal is 'Bonamassa' that should tell you all you need to know! Seriously, the wah wah Rock Blues thing is how I used to do it. So now I have proven I still can get down mean and dirtay. All Blues is classic Miles Davis first appearing on the influential 1959 Columbia album Kind of Blue.

Originally a 1963 jazz composition by the English jazz pianist Victor Feldman and the jazz trumpeter Miles Davis. It's a popular choice with drummers because it features many stops where drum fills can be, and are, unleashed!

ABOUT ME
I play the music I like to listen to. 
As a guitarist I like to think I have my own style.
Harmony, and the groove is what I'm chasing, hopefully with a tasteful, nuanced, and distinctive presentation. 
I don't have a genre as such. I could sort of call myself a smooth Jazz 'n' Blues guitar 'thang' but in reality every track crosses over multiple strands of R&B/Jazz/Funk/Pop. Don't be put off by my use of the "J" word. Jazz to me is anything unpredictable and I'm nothing if not contemporary. 
Rhythm playing is as much a part of my "game" as lead soloing. I love the Funk!
My main instrument is guitar. I play a 1973 Ovation Breadwinner, an Ibanez nylon stringed and a Yamaha keyboard loaded with Keyscape. Unless stated I play all the other instruments too (mostly Bass), and sequence MIDI and arrange/produce. 

MY JOURNEY
I was signed with Fresh Air records and EMI in the 1980's creating Jazz/funk dance tracks but things were just as challenging then as they are now for musicians so I got a 'proper job' for 20 years! During all that time my guitar was in the loft! I rediscovered music in 2010 and Soundcloud in 2014.
