Born on June 21, 1979 and coming from a musically inclined family with his father having 20 years of experience after being a Disco DJ in the 70's, a mother who loved to sing in the choir, George had the perfect type of open and supportive environment to develop his musical interests. With both a piano in the house and playing the saxophone in school, he developed his ear for sound. At the young age of eight, he was already curious about the records his dad would spin and slowly but surely he would learn tips from his dad on how to work with vinyl. Additionally, having a younger brother that just didn't want to be a DJ (he wanted to be a drummer!), made it more challenging for George when he would have to work extra hard to beat match over his brother Rob's constant loud drumming. Over the years he would learn the merits of both vinyl and CD's while he would spin at house parties and work at TRAXX records, learning about equipment and gear. 

Naturally the interest in DJing lead George to the club scene in Toronto in the 90's. When The Guvernment was formed and touted as Toronto's largest and best club, George was seen there nearly every Saturday and imagining the thrills of playing such a venue. It just so happened that he had been going there for about two years when opportunity and desire struck home. Charles Kabouth the owner of the Guvernment had been looking for a new DJ to play the Acid Lounge and after a few conversations together it was agreed George would be able to try it out on a trial-basis. It is now over 8 years later and George is still a solid resident in the Acid Lounge. Growing with some of Toronto's well known DJ's such as Mark Oliver, Manzone & Strong and Deko-ze, George had the support and friendship of solid talent and mutual respect, in a highly competitive industry. 

People that really get to know George can see that his sets often reflect the mood he is in, when he is felling great his music takes on a more jubilant, playful vibe, when he is feeling more on the sombre side his sets will be more experimental. Perhaps the fact that his astrological sign is a Cancer dictates his sensitivity and ability to absorb and express all the emotions he feels through the art of music. 

In fact, George has stated he is a big believer of being able to mix any two songs together, no matter what they are. Many an after party has showcased this as well, with him mixing in original old vinyl tracks like Tiffany's "I Think Were Alone Now" and Charles and Eddie's track "Would I Lie To You" with a backing throbbing house beat in the background. His experimental mixes have found him creating his own anthems for his fans like mixing Harry Choo Choo Romero’s “What Happened” with Dr Kucho's “Lies to Yourself”. The intoxicating mix of A Story’s “SOS” Skylark mix with Shakedown’s “At Night” the Kid Crème version and Bodyrock's “Yeah Yeah” the D. Ramirez mix with Green Velvet's "Shake and Pop".

His self produced and released mix of “The Love of My Life” in 2003 has been stated by many a fan to be one of their favourite CD's which signifies a more melodic, funky, and inspiring, different house music era from today where electro, minimal and tech over-saturate. That being said, George is not one to shun any type of music. Regular Acid Lounge followers can attest to the variability of his sets. There will be times when more electro dominates his sets or sometimes when a darker tribal form of funk is heard as well as times when a funkier deep house feel is offered to the dancer. 

Consequently, George's talents have not gone unnoticed. Looking around the friends he's made over the years he can count more than a handful who have also decided to take up the art of being a DJ after being his supporters. Although ask him and he won't say, it's proof that his talent is inspiring to others who also have the desire to move people to their sounds after experiencing many magical, moving nights on the dance floor. 

George has played some of Toronto's best hotspots for lounging, dancing and socializing both on land and on water including: Film Lounge, The Comfort Zone, Beba Lounge, Viva, Pur Supper Club, Area 51, System Soundbar, Charlies’, Li'ly Lounge, Wicked, Room 19, The River Gambler, Space, The Drake Hotel, The Silver Dollar Room and Funhaus. 

His chief residency is the Acid Lounge within The Guvernment, but he has also played the main room on more than one occasion. George is very lucky to be one of the clubs long term residents. Whereas The Guvernment's Gallery has many DJ's fighting for scheduled spots on sometimes bi-weekly or tri-weekly rotations, George is able to have an entire room to showcase his talent from 11pm-4am. Seeing the Acid Lounge through now three renovations, George is happy and honoured to be a part of the Guvernment legacy and continues to provide his talents and sounds to the ever-ready followers in the room. 

He has a fierce following, but is a humble fellow...

Let's start at the start because that's always the best place to start. Mike TV are clearly better than 30 Seconds To Mars and Scouting For Girls but are no way as good as Fearless Vampire Killers. Now that's cleared up, let's move on with the boring showy-off stuff before we go all stupid again at the end. Larry Livermore once described them as "one of England's better pop-punk bands" and he invented Green Day, so that's really good. Here we go.


Mike TV (formerly Pickled Dick) have been on two highly successful tours of China, several trips round Europe (including one amazing gig in Finland, where only ten people came and the band took them all to the pub after). They're released two critically acclaimed albums and several E.Ps - all recorded by uber-producer and dressing gown fashionista - Peter Miles. They've also had album releases in Japan and China, tours with the likes of Me First & The Gimme Gimmes, Sonic Boom Six, Random Hand, The Dickies, Guttermouth, The Flatliners, Uncommon Men From Mars, Chixdiggit, CJ Ramone and Useless I.D. This has put them somewhere near the top of the imaginary punk rock pile. Mike TV is currently composed of Domb Thumb (lead pop smith and occasional Oliver Reed impressionist), Jhon Cosgrove (Cunt Dine With Me), Glyn Mellor (someone please fuck him) and Richie Cooper (handsome new guy, has an army of children). Domb and Jhon once had a fight in Morrisons in Newcastle and Jhon ripped Domb's Ramones shirt - the tearing caused modern day punk rock to fall apart… that is until the new Mike TV album is released next year.


The plan for 2014 is simple: In January, Mike TV will record a brand new 16 track album with Peter Miles. In February, the band will ignore each other after spending all that time together. In March, the band will argue about how to release it. From April to September, Jhon will play cricket. In October (2017) the album will be finally self-released and the guys will go back to China. Why? Because the Chinese have a great taste in punk rock (they like any old shit). The album is under the working title 'SAUSAGE HOSPITAL.' Why? Because it's gonna be full of sick bangers.

Fired at forty. It was a belated birthday present from the owner of the contract embroidery firm I worked for. I had spent the evening before defending one of my staff against the tirade of the boss’s irascible wife: an unconscionable act that needed to be dealt with, swiftly. And so it was the following morning I found myself back at home, before my wife had even left for work. I stood there, without job, title, high five-figure salary or security, and fearful of telling her the news. Without hesitation, my wife affirmed, “This is the best thing that could have happened to you. You were miserable in that job. We’ll figure it out”. Pause, catch breath….wow.  The doors that life opens and closes are rarely the ones we are expecting.

I grew up in a rigid, academically-oriented environment. I always found school easy, piano practice difficult, and longed to play baseball and work on motors. My mother would have none of that. Sports and manual labor would lead to a lack of focus on the important things: things that would lead to a well-paying and, of more significance, a well-respected profession. As she grew up a poor Missouri farm girl during the depression, I can hardly fault her for that perspective.

At age twelve, bored with the tedium of piano music I could not emotionally relate to, I began teaching myself to play the guitar. For the next several years, I picked out the songs from the sixties and seventies that I loved: the piercingly beautiful harmonies of Simon & Garfunkel, the questioning tenderness of Cat Stevens and the rough and flowing melodies of Gordon Lightfoot.  Along the way, I became addicted to the power-chord fun and frenzy of AC/DC and the original and quirky musical approach of Jethro Tull. Through all this, I began to develop an appreciation for certain aspects of classical music. I enjoyed the wonderful melodic drive of Telemann, and almost every symphony of Haydn’s I came across.  Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos appealed to me also, although I have since lost my taste for the very mathematical preciseness of those six pieces. Curiously, I found myself disliking almost any classical piece played on the piano.

Nothing else had appeared on the horizon after high school, and it was now time for me to grow up. So, to please my parents, I took my valedictory honors and scholarships and headed off into my gleaming future at University of Missouri-Columbia as a Navy ROTC cadet, certain of nothing other than garnering more accolades and respect that increasingly meant little to me. My first year at college passed uneventfully. I made the grades, wore my cadet uniform, and performed across the board as expected. I was even selected to be the Navy ROTC representative in a recruiting picture that hung in the main university visitor building, where prospective students and their families would come to see what campus life might hold.  The only memory I have retained of that building is that the glass door in front of that photograph was happily unlocked the day I decided to abscond with the picture for my scrapbook.

I began second year much as the first, embracing life in a matter-of-fact, humdrum manner.  One day in early February of 1974, I was walking a dear friend back to her room on campus. We were discussing music, in particular a Neil Diamond song which ended with a very pretty solo piano piece. (Odd for a pop song.) She was telling me how much she enjoyed that, and when we arrived at her dorm, I sat down at the lobby piano and picked out the music. This was nothing out of the ordinary as far as I was concerned, but her reaction was immediate and enthusiastic. “How did you do that?” she exclaimed. “That was wonderful! You are wonderful!”  Still feeling nonchalant about it, and not fully understanding her amazement, I kissed her good night and trudged back across campus to my own room. Along the way, I felt her words sinking in, deeply. “Probably just my ego needing to hear that”, I reasoned, and promptly fell asleep. 

The next morning was a Saturday and I awoke with, what? Noise, no… something in my head, and not just something, but music. It was not the song from the night before, but hundreds of instruments all sounding together in a frenetic rush of harmony and energy. I was aware of all sounds and melody lines simultaneously. I lay on my bed unable to move, or not wanting to, for fear of stemming the deluge flowing through me. After an hour or so, I got up, ignored all my studies and plans for the day, and headed back to that same piano. I sat down and played for two hours, and it was all music I had never played before. I finally pushed the lid closed, completely exhausted, empty, and happier than I can ever remember being.  The consummate “all A’s” student began missing classes for the first time ever and searching out any available piano on campus, with always the same result: playing for a minimum of an hour, and all new music. The upcoming integral calculus exam no longer held sway over my time and study.

Several weeks and many piano sessions later, a student at one of the dorms approached me and said she had recorded an hour of my musical wanderings, and had been studying while listening to it. She graciously gave me a copy. My first recording! As I listened to it later, I found myself quietly thinking, “There’s some good stuff here”. I even heard technical sections with a certain level of expertise that I was not aware I could play. I nervously sought out one of the music professors, the resident composer, and asked if he, his tweed jacket and goatee could listen and give me an appraisal. I came back a week later for the verdict. He said it was rambling and disorganized, but despite that, exhibited real talent. My angry and rebellious self heard only his first words, and I stormed away, severely disappointed. “Just what I expected from Professor Tweed-Jacket!”  I have long since realized that he was being honest, and that he was right.

The maelstrom of music and emotion I was experiencing during this time quickly swept away all vestiges of my life and relationships, and left me free, full of fears and alone. I dropped out of school, abandoned my scholarships, and took a job as a dishwasher to the astonishment and dismay of both parents and friends. Throughout the next twenty years, I performed in several different bands while working a wide variety of jobs. These usually involved hard physical labor, which I discovered I loved. I unloaded fishing boats in Alaska, drove forklifts and delivery trucks, worked in a state mental institution and any number of warehouses. I eventually arrived at the level of general manager, a position I held for five years before the axe fell in 1994. With the amazing moral support of my wife, I took the leap and began playing professionally in the autumn of that year. It was then that I encountered for the first time a deeply moving relationship with the grand piano. In her highest form, she is a black-as-coal, nine-foot beast of thunder, elegance and tears.

I found paying work as a pianist quickly enough that I was able to release my first CD one year later.  I now have four recordings of my own and have keyboard credits on a fifth, a Native American Flute album called “Courting The Heart Of The World” by my friend, Saggio. I have sold 56,000 copies of my CD's.  Now sixty, and twenty years into my life’s work, I am more in love with the mystery of music than ever. I awake every morning unsure of quite a lot, yet I grow increasingly less fearful and more excited at the possibilities inherent in not always knowing. Against the wisdoms and remonstrations with which the first nineteen years of my existence were imbued, I am learning to embrace the lack of certainty as the deeper and truer nature of life, and the key to living it fully.


DJ Mickey McLean.

One of the original 5 trailblazing pioneer DJs to unleash the House Music sound in Malaysia. Together with legends Callen Tham, DJ Gabriel Chong (RIP), Jungle Jerry & Groovedoctor (Mark Rajesh), Mickey was part of this elite group of DJs that were the very first to be paid to play a purely House Music set in Malaysia. In early 1997 onwards after arriving from Edinburgh Scotland, Mickey was tirelessly pushing House Music in Kuala Lumpur before there was even a real House Music scene yet. Underground !
From small private parties attended by clued-up locals & foreigners, to clubs that were just starting to be open-minded enough to book DJs that were playing only House, Mickey witnessed and was immersed in the birth of the Kuala Lumpur House Music scene.
In 1998 it exploded. What a time to be alive !
Crowds were doubling in size by the month. This monster was out of the cage and by 1999 all the best clubs in Kuala Lumpur were playing House.
1998 saw the very first large scale raves kick off by promoters Tempo. Mickey was one of the DJs to play at these first ever Malaysian raves.
Mickey has a versatile sound and always has. Small intimate bars and parties playing deeper and more soulful vocal type House to larger clubs and events where Mickey plays a more harder, techy sound. Always House. 
From bars to corporate events to beach parties to cruise ship parties to underground clubs to countless guest DJ slots to playing in different countries around the world, Mickey has done it all down the decades. Mickey has held numerous DJ residencies in Kuala Lumpur, most notably the legendary 'Backroom' in 1999 & 'Frangipani Bar' from 2002 to 2006. Nowadays you will find him playing regularly as a resident DJ at 'The Locker & Loft' speakeasy bar in KL.

Mickey has played at parties supporting top international DJs over the years including Roger Sanchez & Paul Oakenfold.
He has warmed up for Jon Carter from London (first ever internationally recognised DJ to play in Malaysia), Joshua DJ Iz from Chicago and also Dennis Ferrer from New York plus many more.
The parties and events and raves and venues that Mickey has DJ'd at are too many to mention. 

Mickey has ridden along with DJ technology developing over the years and has moved from playing records on Technics decks to CDJs to the wide choice of hardware used today.
Mickey was 23 when he started DJing in Malaysia in 1997. In May 2024 Mickey will celebrate his 27th anniversary of DJing in Malaysia, aged 50. When he  started in Kuala Lumpur, there were 5 DJs playing House. Now it's more like 50-100.
House Music is now endemic in KL, with countless events, venues & parties and Mickey has evolved through the whole journey. Often as a promoter too in the early years, Mickey's input, contribution and man hours dedicated to the House scene in Malaysia are immense and immeasurable.

2024 and Mickey is still alive and kicking, DJing the music he loves - House in a country he loves - Malaysia.

Gary Gecko, has been the man behind the infamous Gecko Samui Beach Parties for the last 10 years and pioneer of what is now a thriving international club scene on the tropical island..

Hosting events from Grammy Award winning band Dirty Vegas LIVE, The Godfather of House.. Marshall Jefferson Danny Rampling’s “Last Ever” professional gig to Ministry of Sound’s “Chillout Sessions” Gary’s never had to do a lot of arm twisting to bring the likes of Norman Jay MBE, Graeme Park, Dub Pistols, Mark Knight, Hoxton Whores, Smokin’ Jo, Peace Division, Jon Carter, Terry Farley, Dave Seaman, The Freestylers, Brandon Block, Lisa Loud, Ricardo Villalobos, Nightmares On Wax, Leeroy Thornhill, Krafty Kuts & Tim Sheridan to name a few that have graced the Gecko Stage and chewed the fat with V.I.P guests the likes of Jay Kay & Mick Jagger.

But that’s not the half of this man’s many talents..
In between running Gecko Samui and touring the globe DJ’ing at the coolest venues from Ibiza to Japan, you’ll find him in the studio doing what he loves best.. making music!

With some strong releases over the last few years such as 
“Bomb the Terrace”, “Double Drop” and the silk stocking filler “She’s Hardcore” out on Toolroom a couple of years ago, Gary’s now taking it to another level. With over 15 brand new tracks finished and busting to get out there, the best way he know’s how… D .I .Y !

A brand new label "Gecko Records" masterminded by the Thailand legend himself, is set to make a monster impact amongst the dance music industry. 

The first release, "Dskasting" with quality vocals from Feral (formally known as MC Kinky...memorable for the Massive hit "Everything Starts with an E") an absolute club winner with a tough edge yet strong energetic vibe was a must for all Dj's bag!! 

This Gary Gecko & Pigbwoy collaboration has a host of remixes stemming from Dogtown Clash (Barry ashworth from the Dub Pistols), Leeroy Thornhill (from the Prodigy), the man who is - Jon Carter, Kriss Darang and Sanyi & Tritone a total complete package is delivered containing a remix for everyone. 

2008 was a big year for Mr Gecko, which ended on a Massive high on New Year’s Eve with the LAST EVER night at the Gecko beach venue!
It was last night of all last nights!” with the line up and guests consisting of 
the "who’s who" of the dance industry.

So after 10 years of magical memories on the beach, Gecko Moved.. 
'Onwards & Upwards' to a magical new venue built from scratch.. 
Samui now had an absolutely stunning new Gecko with one of the most
amazing views you'll ever see..

Until October 9th 2009 at 2pm, when disaster struck..
An electrical power surge in an extention socket caught fire while the Gecko family were sleeping off a busy night
and they woke up with the room ablaze. Escaping only with their lives, they lost everything within minutes.

The whole building was gone and everything inside too. They had lost everything down to the clothes on their backs. All the sound equipment and Gary's vast 25 year vinyl collection was destroyed alongside cds, computers, back-up drives the lot!

Unfortunately they weren’t insured as they hadn’t completely finished the building works and with the thatched roof it wasn’t exactly fire proof!

Since the fire, friends on the island and around the world have rallied round to help in every way possible.
DJs and producers from around the world have been sending Gary music on hard discs and usb sticks to help him get back on track and also helped to organize the Gecko Rebirth events with star-studded line-ups alongside Gary's brother Chris to help rebuild the Gecko again! 

Just two months down the line with a 50 strong force working around the clock, Gary's Vow to come back from the ashes became reality on New Years Eve when the newly built Gecko Samui opened it's doors, bigger, better and a lot more stylish with a fantastic new modern contemporary design in the same beautiful location on Bophut Hills.

2009 was Gary's 20th year as DJ and brought the opening of the NEW Gecko Samui, 

"Black Flower" was the first release on Gecko Records' Green Label, coming out on Jan 9th 2009. 

2010 brings some really special treats..

"The Greatest" also from Gary Gecko & Pigbwoy teaming up with Grammy winning Lyricist Keithen Carter and a Wicked collaboration with Gary, Keithen and The Godfather of House Marshall Jefferson "Up All Nite" with the one and only Curtis McClain on vocals..

Another with Gary, Keithen and Kriss Darang called "Better in The Dark" will also be released in the near future plus many more

There's also the follow-up to "Dskasting" with Feral, "Good Bad Ugly"
and a Big cover of Big Audio Dynamite coming out on the Orange label of Gecko Records in June 2009 and many many more things in the pipeline, so things are really looking very good for Gary Gecko!


Where did it all start.......... 

Gary Gecko was Inspired by the smoke and lights of London's original sweaty underground scene... Danny Rampling's "Shoom" at the fitness center in Southwark St, Lisa & Nancy's "Loud Noise" and "Future" at The Sound Shaft, with "Spectrum" Just next door at Heaven.... for Gary, it was exactly that!! 

Stick a couple of weeks in Ibiza in with all that, getting amongst it under the stars at Amnesia and he was hooked! The sounds of Chicago Acid House Trax, Mr Fingers, Marshall Jefferson, Adonis, Nightwriters & co, blending incredibly with the Balearic anthems of Enzo Avitabile, The Wooden Tops, The Residents and Thrashing Doves catapulted Gary straight into the record shops. 

Music had no boundaries for Gary after that and he found himself experimenting expanding the limits of House music (Musically of Course) Partying was and still is his favourite pastime and with the amount that man was doing then, he listened to a lot of music and built up an unbelievable record collection fast! 

After what Gary called "an 18 month apprenticeship", getting his foot in the door at all of the top clubs and outdoor venues in Tenerife, he decided it was time to head back and assault London's clubs....only this time, not just as a spectator! Close friends Blaine and Barry Ashworth (now with Dub Pistols ) had opened De Ja Vu records in Covent Garden. It was while playing in the shop that Gary met Darren Emmerson. They went on to be residents together for more than a year @ "Foreplay" in the Gass and "Naked Lunch" @ The Emporium. 

From then on, Gary established himself more and more playing in various clubs and events around London and the UK before deciding it was too cold for him in London SE3 and time to broaden his horizons and head for sunnier climbs onto playing Ibiza, Monte Carlo, Brazil, Hong Kong, Bangkok, & of course not forgeting the famous parties at his infamous Gecko Bar on the tropical island of Koh Samui, Thailand!.........

Starting out in the early eighties playing the minimalist new rock of that time the band TV-2 developed into a unique brand in Danish rock. Their music has its roots in rock with a style that is simple but sharp, and with lyrics that have gotten more and more complex over the years. Still, listening to the songs you will discover a playful and yet disciplined ambiguity, which has changed into a more raw kind of sensitivity lately. TV-2 has maintained a high level of quality, received numerous awards, and albums like "Rigtige mænd" (Real Men), "Vi bli'r alligevel aldrig voksne" (We'll Never Grow Up Anyway) and "Nærmest lykkelig" (Almost Happy) have been an important addition to Danish rock with songs that reflect the times we live in.
