A mix for William.

William was a refuge for me at Burning Man. He was the first person I met the first year we went and was there on playa every minute I was there for the next 16 years (bowing out only once for 8 hours when he broke his leg and had to go to Reno). I made this mix thinking about all the times we rode the Surly Bird, talking about music, people, France (of course, his life, amazing wife, awesome kids, our truly unique band of incredible misfit friends and most of all, his true lust for life. 

Burning Man has always been a rough place for me. It is physically hard on my diabetic body and that makes the mental stress of the inherent fatigue induced by the desert even worse. I don't know a lot of people really well out there even if I know a lot of people fairly well. That has always made the playa a rather lonely place for me at times when everyone is with their mini crews within the larger camp. Except..for William. If ever there was a thing I needed at Burning Man, whether it was water, chapstick, candy, a walk away from the car, a chat, a joke or god forbid I was hungry or not feeling well...William was not shy about fixing any of these problems. Certainly that was not just for me, it was for anyone, for anything he could do or :) volunteer you to do for someone. But most of all William for me was just always there. If everyone else disappeared..there was Will to save the sunrise or whenever. 

William would always come to the DJ booth when kids got on to tell me to chill out the tunes or try to be PG-13 and I always loved that. Even at Burning Man William was looking out for the little ones. This mix isn't about William but rather something I thought he'd enjoy and we could talk about later. I hope we get to.

As a National touring DJ and Producer, Ben Silver reaches toward the deepest, moodiest corners of House, Techno & Downtempo. You may know him as one-third of Orchard Lounge, the long-running Chicago-based DJ collective. The trio's all-night tag-team sets blend psychedelic house, deep bass, melodic techno, and other futuristic, ethereal sounds. Orchard Lounge has held residencies at clubs around the country, including Smartbar in Chicago, Vagabond in Miami and Love in New York. They’ve gigged at legendary venues like Red Rocks and Hammerstein Ballroom, at major festivals including Lollapalooza, Coachella, Electric Forest, and Electric Zoo, and alongside artists Steve Bug, Nicolas Jaar, Lee Foss, DJ T, and many others.

Ben also regularly performs as a solo act all across the country. Over the past couple years, he has played many shows and festivals, including Camp Bisco Music Festival, Great North Music Festival, Luna Light Music Festival, Wild Woods Music Festival, and much more.
