Banoffee Pies Records 19th release in the Original Series lands with a very special solo EP entitled "Static" from Melbourne based Producer/DJ, Pugilist. Alex has been making incredible selections of bass infused, UK and Dub tinged music for many years. A fitting welcome on BPR as the label hits it's 8 year anniversary since its inception in 2014. The platform continues to evolve with an ever growing number of releases representing different sounds across its sublabels and many blossoming side projects alongside.

To honour the frequent mood changes and feelings of relative isolation experienced in the last 2 years, the A side aims to reconnect those lost moments with "Déjà Vu" & "Future Retro" - both tracks channelling a UK centric sound for the dancefloor and a further proof of the depth and quality found across Pugilist's back catalogue. The B side flaunts a completely parallelled sound palette with "Static", a down tempo dubby track partnered by the beautifully stylish "Sky Blue". The pair have been slugging out grime-leaning gear for the past five years, causing a ruckus with their truly evil ‘Norman Bates’ beat, releasing also on Trends own Mean Streets label and linking up with Slimzee’s foundational stable Slimzos for some dubplate action.

They bring that street-level swagger to the tracks on the Ninety Nine EP, but here their punchy 8-bar flex is embellished to blend in with the Sneaker surroundings a treat. ‘Carnage’ tips towards chopped up Think Breaks while ‘Nocturnal’ doubles down on the dirtiest of b-lines. Back in the day i was putting loads of mixes together especially for the times when we used to get back home from clubs etc. A few of us would load up the Nintendo with Mario Kart or just chill and we would play and discover so much music all the way through the early hours and into the next day.
We all had mixes that we wanted to share or albums we wanted to play.
The 'Mind Control' Mixes and the 'It Began At Burnetts Lane' mixes were produced for those moments. This mis is heavily influenced by the Depth Charge Recordings which still till this day pushes the boundaries. RIP J Saul Kane.

mINDcONTROL vOLUME 3 (1999 all vinyl mix)

This mix is a selection of Breakbeat tracks that i find contain elements of Nu Skool Breaks records from 25 years ago. Labels like Marine Parade, TCR, Fuel, and many more were always forward thinking and covered a large area of various styles of Breaks from Electro to raw breakbeat driven bass monsters!
I find the following artists are doing the same by pushing boundaries and experimenting with different genres of electronic music which i find very exciting.
