London's @bensunmusic has previously released on Delusions Of Grandeur, King Street, Nite Grooves and Quintessentials. Now he is back with a brand new EP for @razor-n-tape Reserve, following his remix of Kraak & Smaak for the label a few years back. The Distant messenger EP is a wonderfully layered EP which wears it's 90's influences on it's sleeve. Think acid tinged Larry Heard, Chez Damier and early Ron Trent and you are in the right territory. It's house music with class, warmth, depth and edge.

With previous releases on Delusions of Grandeur, Voyeurythm and more, UK producer @BenSunmusic delivered a gorgeous blend of deep textures that hearken back to the golden era of NY and Chicago with his Distant Messenger EP on Razor-N-Tape.

In celebration of the EP hitting the shelves, Ben hops on the decks to showcase his crystalline cuts & soaring selections. Shifting from Moodymann to Baianasystem to Quando Quango, he peruses percussive groove and timeless taste on his debut RNT podcast.

"I always find that the first track in a recorded mix really sets the tone – and if you get it right, you're off and away. In this case it was something I just discovered, a track by Gnawa musician Simo Lagnawi. Really got me moving, and I just freestyled it from there. The now London-based Ben Davidson has a string of well-received records under his belt, under the aliases Benjamin Sun, Earth Patterns and now as Ben Sun. His regular outings on Delusions Of Grandeur and Voyeurhythm are particularly of note, as well as recent excursions on Utopia and Razor N Tape. We’re delighted to have him as part of the Phonica family now too!

The 12” starts with ‘Trip’, a gradually building filtered Disco teaser, with classy deep House number ‘Mellow Madness’ following up. On the flip is the sumptuously balearic roller ‘Glow’, before the record’s euphoric floor-filler ‘Siren’ rounds out the record in style. We have a feeling this particular earworm will be lingering in records bags (and USB sticks) for some time!

Ben Sun is a UK-based artist fusing analog frequencies and crushed samples to create vivid, atmospheric dance music. Frequently exploring ambient and pop tendencies.

He has recently released records with Jimpster's electro-focused label Cyphon, as well as Phonica and Razor-n-Tape. His music is played globally by a diverse range of DJs, from Greg Wilson to Laurent Garnier, Osunlade and Linkwood.

Beyond club music, Ben has been developing a collaborative ambient set combining live synths with trumpet and cello, that debuted at We Out Here Festival in 2022. This follows an earlier LP for Utopia Records, under the alias Earth Patterns – blending musical meditations with deep, uplifting body rhythms.

Originally hailing from South London and now based in Margate, Damo runs "The Red Telephone" club night, together with Melissa Borris and co-hosts a radio show of the same name with fellow DJ Zoe Artingstall on Margate Radio.
