South London power threeway, shouting over grungey punk music.

Nicky Lorenzo, real name Nicky Siemes, was born on the 11th of August 1996 in the small city of Arcen, The Netherlands. At the end of the summer of 2012, he saw the aftermovie of Tomorrowland. What he saw was a whole new world to him. DJ’s who were performing on a massive stage in front of thousands of party people, it was unbelievable. Seeing this people go crazy on their music, it looked like a dream to him. 

That was the moment Nicky decided to buy his first DJ controller. He went to the store and bought a Pioneer DDJ-SX. He hooked up the controller inside his bedroom and started to play a bit, but he quickly experienced it wasn’t that easy as it looked on the movies he watched before. After a while of practising, he got frustrated and asked himself why he couldn’t mix like all the other DJ’s. After watching some tutorials, he decided to start again and give all he had. It took some time, but he became familiar with his device and he spent a lot of hours behind his controller. Thanks to all the hours of practising, he became better and better. He also started to feel more for music and being a DJ, so his interest in the music industry started to grow more and more.

A couple of days later, he found that thing on the internet called a “podcast”. It was great because people could listen to tracks mixed into each other. To him, this was great because he could share his music and DJ skills to people around the world. The listeners of his podcasts, were very positive about it. They said it sounded good and they asked him to do create more mixes. So Nicky decided to start with his own podcasts. Each week, he recorded mixes of an hour and put it on the internet. After the first podcasts, people started to follow him and that pushed him to keep on going with recording podcasts. 

Thanks to his podcasts, Nicky was asked to come and play on local birthday parties and other smaller events. The sets he was playing were well prepared because he wanted to know all of his music before he went out to his gigs. His good preparations also helped him relax before starting his gigs, because he knew his gear and music. Thanks to all hours of hard practicing, his gigs were successful. People were very positive about him, so his name started to grow slowly. For him, it was the best feeling he could get; entertain people with his music… The parties weren’t like the big festivals he was dreaming of, but it was a successful start in the music industry for Nicky Lorenzo. 

In the beginning of 2015 Nicky visited the Dancefair at Utrecht. He attended some master classes by Martin Garrix, Nicky Romero, Quintino and Laidback Luke. The master classes were great and he learned a lot of them. When he came home, Nicky decided to purchase Ableton Live Suite 9.  The program looked hard, so he read manuals and watched tutorials on the internet. He also followed a course for producing. The course helped him to understand the program. 

In 2016 things got serious for Nicky. He had the honour to open a new club in Germany named BK1. The gig went great and he got a lot of positive feedback. So he got invited to perform during the second event of BK1. 
In the summer of 2016, Nicky entered the DJ-contest of Stereo Sunday Venlo. The winning price was a 30 minute gig at Stereo Sunday. After a exciting month of waiting, he was chosen as winner of the contest. Nicky opened the second day of the festival. Right from the start, he managed to get the crowd go with him. People were dancing all over the place and his 30 minutes flew by. He got a lot of positve feedback, which gave him a boost of energy. 

This is the rise of were Nicky Lorenzo is right now; following his passion and working hard to climb the ladder to become a professional DJ and producer. For him, entertaining people with his music, gigs and enthousiasm behind the decks, is the greatest thing to do. So that’s why we can be assured to hear a lot more from Nicky Lorenzo in the future!
