This is the last track I'll upload before my full-length album comes out. This track is called 'Conjecture Views' and features the excellent IK Multimedia's guitar modelling software. I've used the recently released MESA/Boogie amp package, consisting of the Mark IV, Dual Rectifier and Transatlantic amps. I hope you'll enjoy this track as much as I did creating it!

Once again engineered, mixed and mastered by my good friend from London, Preben Raunsbjerg. He was the one encouraging me to use the MESA/Boogie amps on here. Thank you mate!

This tune was originally scheduled for my latest CD release "Sum Of Parts", but I decided to reject it, for personal reasons.  That doesn't mean you can't enjoy it!  Sorry for the abrupt ending.

It's been a while I posted a new tune here on Soundcloud! Well, as some of you know, that's because I have been writing songs and recording a lot for a full new album of Jazz Rock/Prog/Fusion with a newly formed group. Members are Danny Handler, Mirko Borach and Jason Rubenstein, apart from myself. In the meantime I did this new tune, in line with some new solo tracks this year that are a bit lighter and have an optimistic feel. They will be part of my new solo project of electric guitar music I am doing in 2017.

Helianthus is Ancient Greek for Sunflower. This is a tune of summer with some moods referring to lushious fields and hills of sunflowers coated in the warm colours of evening light. Just back from France, Provence, the land of painter Van Gogh...

Waves of Tides

This instrumental guitar tune is easily explained by the title, a couple of waves moving in, sweeping or crashing on the shore. I roughly gave these 4 different moods, the main one being an uplifting Sunny day type theme, second one being more melancholic, the third is unsteady with some odd chord progressions, and the fourth (in the break after the solo section) being darker and threatening only to end in the calm sea again. The track actually literally is swept away by the sound of waves in the end...

The opening and ending is done by simple reversing the main arpeggiated chord section of the clean guitar in the main theme, an almost organ like sound.

I made a very lively percussion and drum section with lots of congas, drums, etc. 
Heavy piano tones comping the themes in here are a nod to Jason Rubenstein, a great musician I am currently collaborating with to produce a new full long play album of prog rock.

I hope you will enjoy this new instrumental of mine, part of a new solo album of electric guitar music in the making for this year.

Waves of Tides

Waves of Tides | Dan van den Berg

This is a track of summer, days of golden evening light with hazy warm skies. Sitting and watching the last remaining light of day, which where I am from can be near midnight. 

This track is me on electric guitar again, playing my favorite Fender Stratocaster. I play around with bluesy pentatonics and bends, volume swells as well as more chromatic fusionesque lines and even a bit of a more ambient rock style and prog. I found it appropriate to play a Fender Rhodes type piano in the comping as well as adding some string sections here and there.

For starters, today is Rients' 35th Birthday so let's wish him a happy birthday!  It is always a very special treat when the Dutch fusion master Rients Draaisma performs, and here he's joined me again on our original, Something Higher.  Rients http://www.rientsdraaisma.com is as deep as guitarists get - simply brilliant - a world class musician who is humble and inspiring to so many.  Check out the lines he creates here over the churning 12/8 time signature.  With Rients' guitar mastery, there certainly has to be something higher.

Something Higher - Rients Draaisma / Jamie Rhind

Pistons, Valves & Cylinders

A jazz rock tune using some fast grooves and subtle ethnic references (Latin, African). After a few themes I break out into bass and guitar solo sections that are more fusionesque.  Rhythms are high in pace and pave the way for high velocity playing and improvisation. Firing on all engines. ;) I chose the same setting as my recent other electric pieces, straight trio playing without much overdubbing relying on space and tension between the instruments.
