So I find myself in this room, four walls, a ceiling, a floor. I imagine there must be a door somewhere, but it's not immediately obvious where. The walls are nearly completely obscured by stuff hanging everywhere; an ancient frying pan covered in grease, a whisk broom from some other country, an old picture of an owl signed by somebody who's probably famous now. Above me a single light bulb, the old carbon-filament kind, been on for years, I wonder how long? And there’s an old iron stove, with the feet of a lion and porcelain handles. I know how wonderful it would smell in some other space, but here, in this tiny room, with all these other things, it just irritates my nose. My hand reaches out to take an old wash board from the wall, and then I realize; there’s no spiders here. Must not be any bugs. The wash board says “Forester" and I like the ink it's stamped with. Then I see something I want to view up close, something near the top of the room. I want to stand with my nose to it, and inspect it's structure, but there is no way to reach it. I look away, and it seems like velvet in my memory. I stare into a convex mirror, a replica I believe, and in it, the clutter scares me, I turn my head. now it's just a bubble, a thought on hold, no threat for the time being. My hands wander from the rough canvas of a printer’s apron, to a silk sailors map, so soft it might very well not exist. Here and there on narrow shelves I find glass animals. i loved those when I was young.  wonder at tiny glass tail, how easily it could have broken. Could it's maker not have known? I stand suddenly. Exhaustion has brought my own voice to my ears, and I yawn while I stretch my body. So many more things to look at. I know somewhere there's a preserved flower, and a bumble bee, but I can't remember where. I turn back the flaxen covers on my water stained cot, and rest my head on my dusty pillow. I still don't know where the door might be, but for now I’m content to let my dreams take me on the journeys that my body may not. -mreguest
