Helen C. Crane, who was a student of Philip Scharwenka at the Conservatory in Berlin, composed this symphony in 1909; it was subsequently performed in Europe and was featured in an all HCC concert at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, in February, 1928, less than two years before her death.
