Our thirteenth guest hails from France.

Bonnie Spacey, French and Marseille based Dj/Producer, has been rocking the dance floors since 2016.

She had her musical light bulb moment after hearing Miss Kittin & The Hacker for the first time. It was the turn of the millennium and this introduction led her to dive deeper and deeper into electronic music. When she eventually decided to pursue it herself, as a DJ and producer, she began to pair these sounds with another of her formative influences, her intrinsic love of guitars, which was passed down through her guitarist father.

She explores the intersection of these sounds though indie dance, heady techno and dark disco, in both her DJ sets and her own output. « Don’t », her first single, was an immediate success and played by Dixon, Jennifer Cardini and many others. Since then, she accumulated numerous releases on serious labels such as Phisica, Jeahmon! And Lumière Noire to name a few. This led her to perform on prestigious international clubs such as the Kaputt Club (Bogota), Bar Oriente (Mexico), Sisyphos and Renate (Berlin), Sala Upload (Barcelona) or Club Control (Bucarest).

As a space to share her own music and those of likeminded artists, in 2019 she launched Critical Monday, a label dedicated to a club-ready concoction of techno and rock-orientated music. So far she’s welcomed the likes of Curses, Rafael Cerato, Shubostar, Tony Y Not, Günce Aci and Mala Ika to the imprint, all of whom share her love of these potent sonics.

In this episode, she curated for us an eclectic mix of indie dance and electro soundscapes that we are sure you will enjoy.

The search for identity is like digging your own grave, each shovel of dirt bringing you closer to truths you wish you could unsee. Society loves to slap labels on you, pigeonhole you, reduce you to a role in its grand, meaningless play. You wear these masks, pretend to fit in, all the while knowing it’s a charade, a survival mechanism in a world that punishes nonconformity.

As you dig deeper, you unearth the skeletons of your past—lies you've told yourself, the beliefs you've clung to like lifeboats in a storm. The process is brutal, raw, and a violent stripping away of the personas you've crafted to appease others. You confront the darkness within, the parts of yourself you've been too terrified to acknowledge. It's a labyrinth of self-discovery, full of twists and dead ends, where the monsters are your own insecurities and fears.

And here’s the real kicker: the more you search for your identity, the more you realize it’s not buried somewhere waiting to be found. It’s something you forge in the crucible of your own pain and resilience. It’s embracing the chaos, the darkness, the scars that make you human. In a world that demands conformity, your true power lies in your defiance. By choosing to be authentically flawed, you don’t just find yourself; you transcend the very notion of identity.

Closing the River Stage on a Saturday night is notoriously difficult. Walking the tightrope between being too hard and not being energetic enough is one that even the most experienced DJs have found tricky, even at the best of times. Enter: Freudenthal.

One of the most devastating dark-disco voices of a generation, it was the sculpture he built from rare and unreleased records along with Italo-hits that had that dance floor rammed from corner to corner when he finished at 4am. It was a true masterclass in river music. 

With his genuine humility and infectious energy, Tommy Freudenthal was one of the best bookings of our first decade - and the evidence is now here for all to hear!

César Granados—known simply as Granados—began his descent into the depths of sound at thirteen. A boy shredding his vocal cords in rock bands, unraveling the threads of his own sanity until he hit thirty. But rock was just the first step, a gateway drug to the darkness that would soon consume him. In 2012, he dabbled in progressive house, mistakenly thinking he’d found his path. But by 2021, Granados had truly fallen—into the abyss of Indie Dance and Dark Disco—where the music isn’t merely heard; it’s felt, like a cold breath on the back of your neck.

Now, Granados has signed his first EP with Soviett Records, titled G.O.D. (Guadalajara On Darkness). His first single was signed by CS Recordings. But don’t be deceived—this isn’t just a single; it’s a ritual. “Guadarklajara” isn’t a song; it’s a curse, a spell cast through speakers. Now, both are haunting @beatport under the cryptic aegis of @CSRecordings, with the full EP poised to follow under Soviett Records.

This EP is his manifesto from the shadows, a declaration of war against the light, a plunge into the cold, unforgiving depths where forgotten nightmares stir. But here’s the unsettling truth about Granados: he doesn’t want you to merely listen. He wants to drag you under, into the murky depths where his music dwells. His sound is a venom, a twisted concoction of terror-laden harmonies and frenetic rhythms that don’t just play—they consume. This is Granados, and he isn’t just crafting music. He’s weaving a nightmare, and you’re the one ensnared within it.
