Raw Main is a multifaceted artist, musician, DJ and sound designer. He is the next artist to hit strong the dancefloors, with numerous releases to come on key labels; planning 2021 and 2022 almost full of releases. Goals to spread his sound all around the world, get to discover new cultures and habits, and later build his own imprint, and his own musical event. He partially takes inspiration from his origins to transcribe his vision of music – which might be ethnic, electronic or belonging to a completely different genre. Whatever the sound is, Raw Main’s purpose is to take you on a trip, for the duration of a track or a whole set. Forget about samples... He’s all about live performances.

I am so grateful to Robot Heart for inviting me to perform this set which was without doubt one of the most memorable experiences of my life. 

A few years ago, I was dancing as the sun rose over Robot Heart in total wonderment, in a state of total inspiration. During lockdown I recalled that feeling and got to work on two albums, Yin, a classical record and Yang an electronic one. 

Writing these two albums was my therapy during the pandemic, dreaming of a day I could connect with people again on the Playa. It’s just so wild, that the fantasy came true in the best way possible and I got to perform this set, transitioning from Yin to Yang with a special arrangement for the Robot Heart Sunset, opening with about 20 minutes of piano and sound bowls before the electronic beats kick in. 

In order to play the piano live here, I had my beloved Steinway sampled into a virtual instrument and it was a real thrill to be able to play with that sound on the playa!

Yin and Yang were recorded in 432 Hz tuning and are musical expressions of my musings about life, the universe and infinite consciousness. 

I’ve always been fascinated by this quote by William Blake, and it was ringing through my mind the whole of the Freeburn week, and especially during this performance. 

He wrote: “If the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear to man as it is, Infinite. For man has closed himself up, till he sees all things thro' narrow chinks of his cavern.” 

The view from atop the Robot Heart bus warmed my heart, the doors of perception were being cleansed by the beautiful souls in front of me, and I am infinitely grateful. 🙏🏽

DJ Offbeat, Chris Galvan, and OdDio end the decade by taking a look back at some of the Labels and Artists that have influenced us, inspired us, and led us to where we are today.

We examined Compost Records, Jazzanova, Schema Records, 4 Hero, and Especial Records in December.  We started the year off right with a look at Scandinavian Jazz.  This week we turn our attention to Italian jazz maestro Nicola Conte.

The swinging jazz sounds of Nicola Conte first entered my world in the form of the Schema Records album 'Jet Sounds'.  A modern take on bossa, the groove based tunes flowed one after another until the final notes of 'Trappola Mortale' faded into silence.  I ached for more and immediately began the journey again.  The audience widened a bit in America with the Eighteenth Street Lounge re-release, renamed 'Bossa Per Due' and a full remix album aptly titled 'Jet Sounds Revisited'.  

The remixes flowed, as did my love of these dancefloor jazz sounds.  Taking a more pure jazz tone, Nicola Conte and his band recorded 'Other Directions' in 2004 for Blue Note.  Conte returned to his home at Schema Records with 2008's 'Rituals'.  Late in 2009, Schema released a double album of collected remixes from over the years under the name 'The Modern Sound of Nicola Conte: Versions In Jazz Dub' and the journey continues.

I was fortunate enough to catch a DJ set at Sonotheque in Chicago in late 2003, where I enjoyed the fine selections of Mr Conte, as well as an excellent conversation and more than a few drinks with the man himself.  Chris and his lovely wife came for a visit late last year and we all took in the live band, featuring Nicola on guitar and the one Jose James on vocals.  Needless to say, they brought the house down.

In this quarantine period Rebirth wants to make you feel better sharing another beautiful mixtape of the master Larry Heard.

Larry Heard, born 1960, is a musician widely known for the Chicago house music he produced in the mid-1980s and continues to produce today. 
He was a member of the influential group Fingers, Inc. and has recorded solo under various names, most notably Mr. Fingers. His smooth production style with soulful vocals and long instrumental passages that de-emphasized percussion spearheaded the subgenre known as deep house. One of his first releases was a collaboration with singer Robert Owens, released under the group name ‘Fingers Inc.’. The song ‘Mystery of Love’ instantly became a classic hit, rising to #10 on the Billboard Dance charts. Larry Heard's musical influence can be heard in the songs of countless artists. For those who appreciate warm and passionate compositions, Larry's music is pure magic. He has been blessed with a unique gift that sends listeners into a blissful euphoric state. 

Larry Heard mixed our 10th year anniversary collection in 2016, including some of the best releases of the Rebirth’s catalogue.

Since 1996 Berlin-based agency Best Works serves as a powerhouse for booking, staging, staffing and publishing. We represent about 40 talents of manifold musical styles and formations. Besides touring DJs and live bands around the globe, we have long-time experience in corporate booking and music planning.

As a music activist and DJ, XJAZZ Festival, Berlin co-founder and booker Daniel W. Best has more than three decades of experience behind the decks. The sound with which he brings his audiences worldwide into ecstasy constantly changes between jazz, soul, reggae, rare groove, disco and house - sometimes all in one set. He has released several compilations incl. Polish Jazz (JCR) , Best Seven Selections 1,2,3 (Sonar Kollektiv), GIDisco compiled together with Kalle Kuts (BBE) and released electronic music under the Winnie & Somow moniker. He also runs the weekly XJazz radioshow on Flux FM, Berlin.

Having grown up in a music oriented culture and family, surrounded by Persian instruments, Pedram found his musical roots in 70's Disco, Jazz, Psychedelia, Progressive and Deep House. As Deeve, he’s into any kind of atmospheric, deep music. His productions, remixes and sets range from Ambient to Downtempo, House, Breaks and groovy shades of Dub Techno. His monthly show ‚Temptations‘ showcases tracks from these various styles, creating journeys to relax, switch off, dance or dream.
