I discovered Frankie Knuckles through his music, one that was, gentle, lush with a subdued, understated power that rocked many a dancefloor.
I had the privilege to hear him once in the heyday of his legendary residency at Sound Factory Bar in New York. I was submerged, sonically and emotionally by the beauty of the music I heard that night. I remember very clearly saying to myself that this would be impossible to ever equal.
That was 20 years ago, and I never got to hear this magic combination again.

I got to meet Frankie a few times, and he was always like his music, gentle, humble,   yet naturally imposing

I've put together here some of my favorite music from him. So that his legacy can keep on inspiring other people.

Rest in peace, Frankie, may your music keep on moving people eternally

For almost twenty years the eclectic collective from Berlin has been busy producing, composing, arranging, remixing, djing and generally shaping our musical world – in the clubs, on the air, in the studio, live on stage, and with their label Sonar Kollektiv.

Their “very fertile musical world” (Time Out New York) “has dominated the jazz-dance and down-tempo scenes for the past few years, both with its own label and with countless remixes” (Phoenix New Times).

Spreading their sounds and ideas with inspired DJ sets, Jazzanova’s DJs were among the first DJs from Berlin in demand all around the world. Juergen von Knoblauch, Alex Barck and Claas Brieler broaden the music’s appeal as DJs, not only on tour through the best clubs and festivals around the world but also on their weekly Kaleidoskop radio show on Radio1.

5YRS WEDDING SOUL

Five years of WEDDING SOUL, we look back on so far 60 shows of this small big event series. The jubilee is now celebrated according to the mood, with a two-day program, with exquisite guests, representing what WEDDING SOUL is: a well thought-out mixture of soul and funk-inspired music culture, the roots of these in the back, the present and the future in view. Since 1996 Berlin-based agency Best Works serves as a powerhouse for booking, staging, staffing and publishing. We represent about 40 talents of manifold musical styles and formations. Besides touring DJs and live bands around the globe, we have long-time experience in corporate booking and music planning.

As a music activist and DJ, XJAZZ Festival, Berlin co-founder and booker Daniel W. Best has more than three decades of experience behind the decks. The sound with which he brings his audiences worldwide into ecstasy constantly changes between jazz, soul, reggae, rare groove, disco and house - sometimes all in one set. He has released several compilations incl. Polish Jazz (JCR) , Best Seven Selections 1,2,3 (Sonar Kollektiv), GIDisco compiled together with Kalle Kuts (BBE) and released electronic music under the Winnie & Somow moniker. He also runs the weekly XJazz radioshow on Flux FM, Berlin.
