"Sentient is the moniker for Madhav Jolly, a producer / DJ and designer from India. His music paints ethereal landscapes with nostalgic melodies and sounds. Combining techno, trance, acid and breakbeats, his music is versatile and provides listeners with various atmospheric textures weaved for the dancefloor and the headphone raver."

This one is a fantastic blend of acidy-breakbeat goodness with a sprinkle of his original production mixed in bound to put a spring in your step!

Here's what Adrian had to say about his favourite CD...

"The reason I selected this for the series was, for myself, it being personal time piece, the quality of the tracks and the mix being consistently good. Building through some great soulful house vocals and dubs into some deep cuts that haven't dated since it's release in 2002. Having quite a few of these on vinyl picked up around the time, including Mindflight's "Release", Derrick White's "Soul 2 Let Go" and Kerri Chandler's "Atmospheric Beats" the mix by silky deep house man Miguel Migs was never far from the earlobes at the time. And being released on the ever consistently good Naked Music label, its great from start to finish. A true reflection of the kinds of tracks I played out in sets when I started out DJing. Enjoy!!" 065 - Miguel Migs 'Nude Tempo One' recommended by TouchSoul (2002)

Fresh Episode of Bøne Appetit! with Producer, DJ & multi -disciplinary sound designer from Bangalore, India, Madhav Jolly AKA Sentient. Surrounded by his father's cast collection of music, it was at an early age when Madhav knew that this was something he wanted to pursue. After learning how to play the guitar & dabbling with various instruments, he delved into the world of electronic music.

Having spent a couple of years honing his production skills, Sentient released "Desire" on Acid Dream Records in the summer of 2020. This was followed by 2 more releases on his imprint, titled "Resistance" & "Against Reason". Finding himself at an intersection of art & social responsibility, Sentient's music now aims to weave euphoric atmospheres by combining ethereal landscapes & nostalgic melodies.

A mix of techno, trance, acid & breakbeats, his music provides various textures, helping navigate the listener through an intense journey filled with emotion & energy. His music has been featured on BBC Asia on Aneesha Kotwani's residency, on BALAMII radio, his music has also been played out by Nikki Nair amongst many others. He has also received widespread recognition all over the world, most recently, being featured on Mixlabs London with BEC. He now has 2 forthcoming vinyl releases on Lobster Theremin, Later this year.

Bøne Appetit! W/ Sentient - 02/02/2023

This is a digitised copy of a tape I picked up in 1993, when David Morales played at the Hacienda 11th birthday party. I was actually there that night, Morales played in the basement (not usually open at the Hac) from 4-6am, while Frankie Knuckles played in the main room.

Stripped to the waist, wearing a skull cap & tattooed muscles, Morales played street tough New York City house music, and there's lessons in here for modern DJs. I know this mix off by heart, and re-listening to it 21 years later, I can say it's still fresh. 

This particular night at The Hacienda has gone down in legend - for the wrong reasons. The club was full of local gangsters, taking watches from wrists and starting fights. These were the 'gunchester' days, you had to keep your head down.

Listen to the mix - at the end the record abruptly ends, starts again and then ends. This was when Morales was being mugged by a pack of 'scallies' - I myself witnessed them hit him on the head with a glass, lean over the decks and take his vinyl.

This episode was written up in Peter Hook's excellent book - 'How Not To Run A Club'. Apparently after the incident Morales said "you don't pay me enough to bleed"....

Luckily you can now enjoy from the safety of your own home!!

David Morales Live At The Hacienda 11th Birthday Party 1993

This set was recorded live at House Of Pandora, Mumbai on the 2nd of February. This marked the first edition of ELVT Opne 2 Close sessions - featuring all night long DJ Sets from some of the finest artists in the nation. This set is a two and a half hour long euphoric journey through an array of genres from house to acid house to breaks to jungle to techno to electro and everything in between!

About the CD:
001 of the Classic Mix CD collection. This mix immediately sprung to mind and an major contender for all time favourite mix CD. (It's seems like a few of you guys think the same). A hands in the air, feel good garage (and house) banger with many many memories attached. I think I bought this in 1997, two years after leaving school, going to college, working at McDonalds's and clubbing up and down the country once a month alongside weekly/daily night outs in Sunderland.
