Paul Filek is a Canadian singer songwriter from Kamloops, BC who's released three albums since 2006 with producer Henry Small (formerly of the band Prism) and most recently a 2012 five song EP, Paper Planes and Spare Change, produced by Jeff Dawson (Daniel Powter, State of Shock, The Dudes). One thing that's certain is that Paul's confident, accomplished songwriting are commercial in their appeal, as evidenced by his charting success on Canadian radio. His smooth and effortless, funky vocals and heart-on-the-sleeve lyrics are infectiously hard to deny. His feel good songs fit perfectly on top forty radio, sandwiched between songs of similar style by Maroon 5 and Train. Paul made the decision to pursue music professionally after an interesting story unraveled on his 23rd birthday, which led him to work with a local producer and music industry mentor. If you want to hear a good piece of folklore, just ask Paul about the night he was performing in a small club when some guy claiming to be John Mellencamp wandered in and asked if he could hop on stage to play a few tunes. Word travels fast in a small town. The following morning Paul was invited to a local radio station to share the story of his bizarre encounter. During that visit Paul ended up playing one of his songs on-air and the DJ was so impressed by his song, performance and charisma that the two soon formed a production relationship together, which resulted in the release of Filek's first three albums. In 2015 Paul Filek is focusing on his full time music career more intently than ever. The Smalltown sound is fun bass-heavy house music, combining the spirit of Canada's outdoor electronic music festivals such as Shambhala & Bass Coast, with the sound they cultivated at the legendary Hifi Club in Calgary (which they owned and operated). In 2025 they are releasing music on DirtyBird, Rules Don't Apply, Box of Cats and more.  

They've played shows across the globe including Fabric in London & U-Hall in DC, and Bestival in Toronto. With highlights that include appearances on Diplo & Claude Vonstroke's radio shows, a one-year stint in Las Vegas, the yearly Mountain Magic Tour with Christian Martin (of Dirtybird) and friends, and their collaboration with Shad & Wax Romeo "Boom Ha" being featured in the HBO show "Girls".

“The forward thinking sound of nufunk” 
 I-DJ February 2010  Not many artists can boast knocking Snoop Doggy Dogg off the top of the charts, but that's just one of the noteworthy accomplishments of one Steve Jeffery, aka Pimpsoul. He's also been called "the forward thinking sound of Nufunk" by iDJ magazine and has travelled the world as an ambassador for everything funky and bass-orientated. 

Dogg's humbling took place last year when Pimpsoul's blazing collaboration with the mighty Mooqee, Keep Pounding, hit No 1 on the Beatport hip-hop chart, a hugely important indicator of sales success, which led them to win the Beatport music award for hiphop track of the year 2012. Other achievements include racking up more than 50,000 YouTube hits for his re-edit of Duck Sauce's ubiquitous Barbra Streisand, put together alongside DJP. Pimpsoul tracks have found their way into the record boxes of acts as diverse as DJ Yoda and Krafty Kuts. The likes of A-Skillz, Beat Vandals, Mooqee, Fort Knox Five and Kiss FM's Ali B are also big fans - Pimpsoul has even been called in to co-host Ali's show.

For a producer with such a booming sound (one of only three resident producers on leading UK funk label Bombstrikes) Steve is also a firing DJ who has taken his turntable skills to venues across the globe to entertain audiences in Canada, where he has headlined the infamous Shambhala Music Festival. He has also played al over Europe during the last couple of years. Fully armed with a crate full of his own re-edits and mash ups, Pimpsoul grabs the party by its horns and stamps his name on its ass cheeks like a cowpoke with a bad temper. This flat cap sporting English gent is a genuine club DJ with the power to drop the bass and watch the bodies fly around the room. No wonder even poor Snoop had to accept second spot.
