Q. What inspiration did you draw upon when planning this mix, and what type of listening environment could you imagine it being easily enjoyed in? 

A. I recorded this poddy on the Wild Lady, my girlfriend’s canal boat. I find a lot of inspiration digging & plotting here - I’m surrounded by nature and the slow pace of the canal unplugs me from distractions. 

I guess it depends what side of the world you’re listening 🙃 There’s quite a bit of sunkissed house in here, so down under it could keep ya sizzlin’ nicely at a bbq or with a warm brew and biccy for us in cooler climates. 

Q. Are there any songs in the mix that are especially close to your heart, and what is it about these tracks that resonate with you so much?

A. The closing track ‘Does It Really Matter’ by Jeff Dam is a real beauty, there’s something about blissful & groovy breaks which always connects with me. Also shout out to Pistaccio, there’s one from his EP on Magic Carpet last year.

Q. What’s the latest with the Magic Carpet label you run alongside @djappleb? Any upcoming releases you’re particularly jazzed about?

A. We’re celebrating 5-years riding the carpet this year, with some lovely treats to share. The 1st instalment is a EP from b0n with some slammin’ breaks, check the clips up on our SC ⚡️

Q. I know you guys do a regular label night at the legendary Lisbon club Lux Fragil, how would you describe the energy of those nights, and what’s next in the pipeline?

A. Deeply active, big love to our crew who bring the nrg! On the 7th of Feb we’ve got Malika bringing her aromatic grooves and our homie Velvet Velour on closing business, should be a sweet one.

We are very happy to share our latest podcast from one of our favourite DJs - FROND. 

We are a great admirer of FROND's work, both as an DJ across the UK's subterranean/swampy rave scene, and through her precise production style, displayed in her recent People & Places release. We also have v fond memories of her masterful set at Bakk Heia last year, where she gracefully tunnelled through the gears towards collective joyful chaos.

This mix is a reflection of FROND's ability to toe the line between driving body movers, and euphoria inducing tear grabbers. It's a powerful combination, and one that drives straight to the heart. <3

Bakk Heia Podcast 004 - FROND

Bristol-based dancefloor provocateurs Down To Earth embark upon the maiden voyage of a newly-minted record label with the 'Analysis Paralysis EP' from co-founder Remotif. This debut release sets the stage for a new chapter for DTE by inviting listeners into their own sonic orbit, with aural manifestations weaved into being by members of the collective and its close friends.

Remotif’s first release in nearly a year, he’s spent this time patiently honing his sound, distilling the melodious rapture of previous releases into an altogether sleeker, darker concoction. The journey begins with the title track, a pulsating celebration of the feminine divine; barrelling rhythms and low-end heft coalesce with seductive vocal incantations for a kaleidoscopic climax.

Following this, 'Tinto Cringe' descends deeper into the lysergic rabbit hole. Muscular, driving kicks underpin celestial midrange ripples and razor sharp hi-hats, blending sonic complexity with understated danceability. As the EP progresses, 'The Frogs Are Back' shifts the energy with a slower, entrancing pace - ideal for moments when the dancefloor craves a deeper connection.

Rounding out the EP, DTE’s own Boulderhead gently brings dancers back to earth with a stripped back remix of 'Analysis Paralysis'. He dials back the intensity of the original with a cheeky wink and a nudge, deftly streamlining it with his trademark bouncy-yet-minimal aesthetic.
