Following up his outstanding 2014 debut EP, Dreamscapes, Dead Man's Chest returns to the Ingredients fold with 4 more cuts of hardcore/jungle in the form of Nautilus.

The revivalist project of established drum & bass producer Eveson, Dead Man's Chest focuses in around the 157bpm mark, bringing together the classic sound of skittering breaks, guttural bass and stabs that transport each and every listener back to golden age of the early '90s (whether they experienced it for real or not). "Dead man's chest is simply me delving into and re-imagining the music that got me hooked 20-odd years ago,” the Bristol producer tells Data Transmission.

Opener 'Liquid '94' sets a rough and ready standard for the EP, one that is often missing from productions with a more modern focus. The track feels raw and ancient, but holds a great significance, as if it were responsible for carrying on the memories of long lost ravers.

Dead Man's Chest - Liquid '94

Dead Man's Chest - the hardcore/jungle revival project from Alex Eveson - returns with a third EP for Ingredients this March 18th.

Following on his Dreamscapes and Nautilus EPs, Alex's 4-track Farseer release sticks to his slower bpm and rave aesthetic guidelines, but leans in the direction of esoteric rollers. “Dead man‘s chest is simply me delving into and re-imagining the music that got me hooked 20-odd years ago,” says the Bristol producer.

Today's Debut Transmission 'Unnatural Mystic' is as arcane and unpredictable as its title suggests, with muffled chants that swirl through layers of relentless breaks and fuzzy pads. The track can be streamed exclusively below and picked up next month via digital download or red and orange marbled 12" vinyl.

Clipp.art’s first 12” is finally here! Who else to give the froff lords what they want but the one and only 1-800 Girls with his debut EP entitled ‘U, Me and Madonna’. Blood, sweat and a whole lot of creative juices have got the clipp family to this point and we are thrilled to finally have some physical tuna for the people.

1-800 Girls has been on the move of late with shows all over the UK, international dates in Malta and Poland and recently debuting on Rinse FM. This new ep ‘U, Me and Madonna EP’ is a continuation of his highly successful track U, Me and Madonna premiering on Houseum last year. To date, the track has almost two and a half million spins on youtube... Everyone remembers that little kid dancing fabulously to the new york skyline.

Three new tracks including the reimagined ‘Sundown edit’ of ‘U, Me and Madonna’ have that distinctive 1-800 Girls sound however a bit more upbeat and including killer euphoria outros. The second track on the ep would take any dancefloor on an adventure through the deep jungle. Wondering acid lines and some of the smoothest pads we have heard in a while, some kids may never return from the jungle you put them in. Track three ‘All Day, All Night’ is the magic tool of the release breaking up the soundwaves with this moving heavy bass line chugger. It may even push you through to the 13th hour of your Sunday morning kick ons. Overall 1-800 Girls has put some proper talent into this release and we have to give him serious props for his craft.

CLIPP100. It’s a special number so we have really special release for you. Taking the form of our second mini-album our 100th comes from Montpellier via French DJ and producer KARLITA. The 5 exceptional pieces that comprise “Lazydayz” glide against one another informed by the trip-hop, ambient, and lounge music that was folded into Karlita’s youth (by i’m guessing clearly very cool parents). In those years the atmospheric vibes of synth & pads from another world were for her a revelation, as if to say: "this song speaks to me, its history touches me, I almost feel it comes from the sky". Since then, it became a means of expression, and above all a love of music and desire to share emotions, to touch others with words transformed into sound, that Karlita began to compose (in her room probably), inspired by her surroundings and their stories. In her own words: “Où la mélancolie et l'espoir règnent d'une manière groovy” *. This last sentence really connected the dots for us as it explains the zone we’ve created & occupied with our clipp.art releases from the start, up to and including this hundredth release, thus enhancing the charm of this one all the more!

CLIPP100. Opening track “La Chamade” sets the speed, playfully detuned bells flirt around swirling pads, “..in a manner of speaking" a voice whispers into the collapsing pulses and house beats. The die is cast and the only option is to close your eyes and sink backwards into the staccato riddim of “Don’t Worry” - endlessly falling until the dulcet click of the 4/4 groove beckons you into greeting your own subconscious sense of karma. "I don't know what to say” confesses a faceless male voice, to which the feminine reply “I do" echoes back across a chasm as deep as any metaphysical mariana trench. “Good Girl” breaks out into a gentle jog deep the darkness, which is good since you know your hips were made for this action and you’re already flexing. Barely audible Karlita elucidates "She ending up in the roses, a threatening storm over her head, she makes the world turns, as she turns", and it’s no accident, no trickery or wangle that you are now this deep - you’ve since swallowed the red pill and find no horizon, no measure, nor means of escape so go with it, my guy. The only certain choice is down, further down and it’s suddenly a full body bend into the healing semi-spiritual chant of "Shadows, takes me down. Shadows, takes me down. Shadows, takes me down. (etcetera) ". From here we finally feel the sunlight on our faces as the Drexciyan vibes on the aptly titled fourth movement “Shadows” melt away and you awaken to the spraycan shuffle grooves of album closer “Dangerous”. The cycle concludes as the hypnotists fingers snap and the repeating trance of “Dangerous, Dangerous, You're a dangerous girl, she was right" remind you that all hidden meanings can be found deep inside, revealed only once when you stop looking. Emotions shared, words transformed into sound, reaching out across the void. The soundtrack to all our lazy days.  

CLIPP100. The deeper we look inward the further we look ahead, mein kumpel. Our resolve maintained, hand-in-hand this excursion into the raw groove continues. Thank you for the sounds of a hundred good times and please join us for a hundred more!

For those familiar with our Sounds Like a Good Mixtape series, Berliner artist Stina Francina should fire more than a few neutrons in the gassy nebula of your mind. Her mix for our beloved clipp.art series glides between cybernetic detroit electro, squelchy acid, tribal and hard house, idm, euphoric rave, and more and was totally both a workout and a trip, man.
Stina is also the sound designer, executive producer and head techno consultant for “Vienna Struggle” which is an Austrian based avant garde electronic orchestra working on erasing the border between classical compositions and electronic dance music and she has said her mission is to create intimate dance-spaces that encourage curiosity and playfulness. That’s why it comes as no surprise to hear some combination of all these above vibes in full force on her clipp.art debut, aptly titled "factory_kids" ; Both emotional & energetic, hard hitting & atmospheric left field electronica, filled with squelchy acid & euphoric broken beats, “factory_kids” is like multi-lingual, electro-shock therapy for the new new NEW rave generation. We’re usually pretty overwhelmed by music submissions to our INBOX - some are great and some suck and to be honest we’re often just too snowed under to get around most of them. To you we say: “Patience, pilgrims. The judgemental eye will one day be cast over you ALL eventually.” That said, we’re pretty glad we heard the music you are hearing now, because it’s some high quality electronic tuneage and really goes down well with your quaratini’s and bed hair. And maybe might help block out the ubiquitous diplo live streams and general anxiety in the air. What more can we say about “420”? Well, we wanted to release this on the 20th of April, but that would've been a bit obvious, no? So we waited til the smoke cleared and we could introduce these squirrely demons safely into your isolation dens. Let the nuggets of sweet audio creep inside your warm un-made beds. Peek under your foggy binge watching eyelids. Who made these sounds? RØKR did. He’s an artist from Brazil, who released an album in 2017 of completely spacey psych electronic shoegaze tracks, complete with track titles like “You Made Me Legalize”. We didn’t know that last bit until much later, but it makes total sense in retrospect. I was going to write more here, but just got a message from a friend saying “I've just lost two hours to my neighbor whose dog ate marijuana and had to go to the dog hospital. She’s 87”. In the spirit of 420, I got nothing that could top that.
