Very excited about the release of our fourth reference. We welcome Kiri, who debuts on our label with his second EP called "Gateway to Hell". The Austrian producer already showed his weapons in his first release on the amazing Kurnugû label and now offers us in this new EP 4 tracks full of personality and power including a collaboration with Parasite. Grumpy Halftime/Jungle wrapped with corrosive percussion, sinister bass and apocalyptic atmospheres. Kiri promises to make us vibrate a lot with his Drum & Bass, welcome to his dark hell. Koshi has already been released on labels like Zodiac Music or Kurnugû showing off his powerful weapons and destructive sound, and now it's time for us to enjoy his amazing work on our label. As we welcome Stephen Redmore aka Mako back to the label, it’s important to note that Death of a Romantic is not only the debut LP for Mako on Samurai Music, but it also puts Mako in a solo category, a historic first - the only artist to ever release an artist LP on both Metalheadz and Samurai Music.

Death of a Romantic aptly captures Mako’s ability to span different corners of Drum and Bass’ musical palette - a talent cultivated by a musical approach informed by full absorption in the history of this music as a building block, plus a dedication to perfecting the science of breaking down the essential elements needed to make any construction approach at this tempo achieve maximum efficacy.

Followers of Mako’s music have no doubt taken note of this versatile approach to writing music and his gifted ability with breaks and sub-bass. For Death Of A Romantic, a considered approach to strip the music back more in line with the Samurai Music sound was taken but the album retains the Mako flavour - deft, subtle hooks, beds of sub and ethereal ambience, pinned down by total rhythmic potency.

Highlights are many, but the first tunes that were written for the LP embody perfectly the musical environment Mako built specifically for this LP - ‘The Both Of Us’ with its sinister intro and tear out conclusion, and ‘Raisuma’ - a call and response rhythm that is almost dub-like in feel with peaks that pack a hefty punch.

Makos's signature lead hooks appear, albeit tempered, to compliment the build reduction on tracks like ‘Falter’ and LP closer ‘We Can Love All’ - both are clear cases of this interpolation of Makos's own breadth of style, pointedly refined to slot into the LPs sound and utilising space to increase their power.

The Death of a Romantic song titles all carry a consistent message, one that Mako puts to use in his own life and interactions with other humans, and one we could all benefit from reflecting on at this time - life brings us joy and pain and much more in between, but if we live with compassion and humility, we can truly love all.

TURBINE MUSIC opens up its portal gates once again with Finnish duo,
OUT OF FUEL

 A bright flash of blue light reveals the widescreen of audio from the duo known
as Out of Fuel, moody soundscapes and hypnotic fx’s swirl around the listeners mind,
which sets the scene for the visual impact for the Holograms EP.
The title track hits with a more stringent 2 steps at the 170 bpm realm.
Flavorsome percussion along the telling kick and bass keeps the energy levels at boiling point.
Broken Geometry makes the entrance with a gutsy exploration of 117 beats per minute, with effects and subtle synth arpeggios playing the scene alongside the 808 bass, this one hurts, this one is deep.
Hot on the heels, Sections steps up the tempo once again, leaning towards a more minimal affair with clever interplay between the bass and percussion.
Wave after wave sees the duo team up with Human Two on this mood induced ambience. If you was sat on a cold beach looking out to see with nothing but a transistor radio and your thoughts ticking over and over, you would be halfway there. 
A serious piece of music.
Event Horizons see them bookend this EP in more familiar surroundings.
Big kicks over a low slung bassline with tickles of percussion and
keys.
Its a pleasure to have Out of Fuel on Turbine Music.

Fresh from a series of artist-led 12"s, Om Unit's Cosmic Bridge label returns with 'Dark Matter', its first compilation since 2017's 'Cosmology Selections'. Collected in a triple vinyl LP / digital formats, the release offers a fresh snapshot of the exciting possibilities and experiments happening at the intersection of hip-hop, jungle and bass music; a hybrid sound the label has pioneered since its first release eight years ago. 

Across 14 tracks, 'Dark Matter' showcases Cosmic Bridge's growing global roster of artists: Moresounds, Danny Scrilla, Proc Fiskal, Margari's Kid, Oliver Yorke, J:Kenzo, TMSV, vromm, alongside new faces Samba and Rude Operator, and perennial favorites Es.tereo, Synkro and Djrum, the latter two in collaboration with label head Om Unit. 

Stylistically the compilation covers a broad range, and gives listeners the space to digest it all with a running time of 75 minutes. There are stripped-down, meditative rollers such as TMSV's flute-led 'Ominous', the bass hypnosis of Danny Scrilla's 'Sacred Waters', and Samba's snappy, booming remix of Om Unit's 'The Lake'. The timeless energy of jungle is channeled in Proc Fiskal's 'Death', a percussive, bouncy number, while Moresounds plays with filters (and your mind) as he refines a less-is-more take of classic themes on 'Watating'. J:Kenzo highlights the music's Jamaican roots on 'Dub For Bashenga'; a tough, pounding cut that goes straight for the chest and which finds its counterpoint in Rude Operator's 'Broken Sky'. 

For those who like more expansive, cinematic approaches there are epic waves of drums, slick editing and euphoria in Es.tereo's 'Floating Point' and Vromm's 'Decentralized', while Oliver Yorke's 'Treasured' and Margari's Kid's 'Challenger' squeeze soul from colder sound palettes and tight breakbeats. 

Om Unit's two collaborations, 'Reflections' with Synkro and 'Ruins' with Djrum, reflect the compilation's ambitions and breadth. The former is a delicate, uplifting roller that sets you up for the dark rumblings, freeform stylings and frenetic rhythms of the latter. The compilation ends with a track that arguably stands tall on its own, Crypticz's 'Chrysalis' feat. Amy Kisnorbo; an 11-minute epic that plays out like a love letter to the magic of breakbeat science, dub technology and human creativity. 

Dark Matter is a finely crafted statement of intent from Cosmic Bridge and Om Unit, shunning easy self-congratulation for a dive into the musical potentials and connections of a sound that is now an established part of the global bass music vocabulary.
